I'd say anything but where sensitivity would be paramount, or trying to make an extreme distance cast.

im still learning these things, but to me the rod is not that sensitive, i think my wifes zebco rod is more sensitive then mine. it seems like i need a rod with more flex for more sensitivity and longer casts. the gx2 seems to only bend/flex in the top 30 percent of the rod.

If you spend a couple hours in the next week reading various threads posted here you should get a pretty good understanding of what rod actions/power are good for what. If your looking to upgrade I would suggest a MHF( medium Heavy Power/Fast Action) rod in the $100 price range and that could do just about anything

Is one company's mhf the same as the next? Are there any brands off the top of your head?

No. There isn't an exact standard that makes one brand's MH/F the same as the next. It gives you a good general idea what the rod is going to be like. But it does vary among companies.

if you want sensitivity, you need a graphite rod with less flex. That GX2 would be good for baitfishing for catfish, or maybe smallish crankbaits.
