Super User ChrisD46 Posted May 11, 2014 Super User Posted May 11, 2014 In order to optimize fishing a Zoom Super Fluke (or similar) - what colors do you favor or use for the conditions at hand ? * Skies : Sunny / Cloudy ? * Water : Clear / Stained ? Quote
mod479 Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 Water clarity is also a factor ton consider, but I usually try to let the fish choose by throwing a few different colors. Just for an example, it was sunny this morning, I was fishing for walleyes with swimming super flukes. Slightly stained river still relatively clear water. White and milky transparent colors are my go to, but this morning they wouldn't touch it. Went to black and blue and got my first 2 smallies of the season, lost a good walleye, and had another follow which took the tail off. Experiment, sometimes color is important, other times they'll hit the whole spectrum it seems. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted May 12, 2014 Super User Posted May 12, 2014 For clear water under most sky conditions, I use baby bass, arkansas shiner, green pumpkin, natural shad, and watermelon type colors. Don't overlook white either, it's good anytime. For sunny conditions and very clear waters, smoke and smoke shad type colors are great. For stained, white, lemon shad, chartreuse, bubblegum and white ice. Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted May 12, 2014 Super User Posted May 12, 2014 Houdini Shad camo pearl color Salty super fluke. Babybass color Those are all I buy. I do have other colors for just in case, but I haven't needed them for several years. Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted May 12, 2014 Super User Posted May 12, 2014 Can't pinpoint the science behind it but a black superfluke has worked for me under about conditions, water clarity, and time of year. I usually keep about 8-10 packs on in my collection and 2 with me for a day of fishing. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted May 12, 2014 Super User Posted May 12, 2014 I fish a fluke (I actually prefer the Havoc Jerk) in water clarity that I would fish a suspending jerk bait....that is from gin clear, to very light stain. You only need two colors, a bright/gaudy color for when they are fairly active ( I like pink, some prefer white etc..) ..............twitch , twitch, see pink, twitch, twitch, see pink, twitch....pinks gone...SET THE HOOK. I also like a natural color for when dead sticking is more the order of the day....Your green pumpkins, watermelons, etc, with or without your choice of metal flake. I like to throw a soft jerk bait when everyone and there brother is throwing a senko, it's a little different, and has gotten me some big bites when the stick slingers are out in force....it's especially effective on those god forsaken days when it seems like every fish in the lake is willing to at least boil on a frog, but not actually eat it. 2 Quote
Super User ChrisD46 Posted May 12, 2014 Author Super User Posted May 12, 2014 Thanks for the replies - I saw a video with a Elite Pro jerkbait expert (Mike M.) say he will throw a soft jerkbait on sunny calm days but will switch to a hard jerkbait on a overcast day with wind ... Just curious if anyone has had success throwing perhaps a darker soft jerkbait on a overcast day with wind ? Quote
0119 Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 Clear - White Ice, Ark Shiner, Green Pearl, Houdini Stained - Where I fish stained means tannic not muddy. Looks like black coffee. Orange Pumpkin w gold glitter, Golden Bream Quote
jcoffman55 Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 I have had very, very good luck with the white pearl color. It has outperformed, overall, of any color of super fluke that I've ever thrown. Yes, on some days, they want something a little darker or perhaps that shows a better silhouette, but overall, that's my go to. Also, for some reason, it seems like often even the bigger fish seem to prefer the super fluke Jr in white pearl. I also have had better luck with smaller hooks like a 1/0 wide gap. I think it has something to do with letting the bait have a better action. I have also been having some really good luck with a couple of zoom's new colors, sexy shad and (I think it's called) bluegill flash. They're pretty similar to each other. They seem to be producing very well for me this spring. When it's stained, I throw a bubble gum pink super fluke. It's not transparent at all and I think it gives a better silhouette for the fish to see. I almost always fish them weightless. They and weightless trick worms are by far my most successful baits. Super User Bankbeater Posted May 16, 2014 Super User Posted May 16, 2014 For muddy water I will use white pearl. For clear water I like watermelon seed. Quote
Super User aavery2 Posted May 16, 2014 Super User Posted May 16, 2014 I have them in several sizes and colors, but for some reason it seems that I always have the best luck on the pearl magnum fluke above the rest. Quote
