bassin is addicting Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 anyone had much experience/luck with the speedtrap? as a follow up to another post... would it be a good alternative to throw as a co-angler if my boater is throwin a lipless... from the description it says it can be worked pretty fast too. Super User J Francho Posted March 17, 2011 Super User Posted March 17, 2011 I wouldn't throw anything in a tournament that I didn't already have lots of time and success with. Stick to what you know. Don't let what the boater throws dictate what you're throwing. But learn from it. Use baits you know that work well at the speed the boater is moving. Stay simple and focused on putting fish in the well. Quote
bigbassctchr101 Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 I've used them...But thats about the extent. They run good and true but I just don't have the confidence. If your boater is catching fish on a lure, throw something like it too. Let the fish tell you first if you need to change your retrieve style, switch colors, or brands (every brand has a different rattle) Quote
Vinny Chase Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Lipless cranks I think are the hardest lure to gain comfidence in just because there are times when you will smack em, and then go a week without a bite..Like Franco said, go with with YOU think will put them in the boat.. I stick with Aruku Shads and Rattlin Vibes Quote
Super User Raul Posted March 17, 2011 Super User Posted March 17, 2011 Like in most things in this sport, there are days they want a particular wobble and sound and if you don 't have it, well ... you are screwed, reason why it doesn 't hurt to have a few of each, they are all lipless but all different, there are days I catch fish with all my different lipless and there are simply days they just want one. Super User NorcalBassin Posted March 17, 2011 Super User Posted March 17, 2011 I've caught more bass on a Speed Trap than any other CB, but then again... I throw a Speed Trap more than any other crank. Quote
bassin is addicting Posted March 17, 2011 Author Posted March 17, 2011 thanks.. i'll probably throw a spinnerbait, chatterbait, and a lippless one knocker as previously suggested as well as the speed trap. maybe a DT Flat or a Spro little john md. and if he's kickin' my butt..... i'll tie on what he's usin' 8-) Quote
flippin and pitchin Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Two completely different lures. Both have a tight wiggle but lipless sink on the pause and the Speed Traps will float up. The 1/4 Speed Trap runs to about 5.5 feet on #12. If you are fishing shallow flats the Speed Trap could make that little change up that works. I have seen it when the ST produced better than a RT or a Vibe. Don't count out the 1/8 size. They cast well for their size and when the bite is tough, it shines best. Quote
Thad Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Had one of my best days ever in 40 degree water with a Speed Trap last week. Quote

The fight was unreal Quote
