BassnChris Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 Take a peek at the video and see what I believe to have been a giant trolling motor eating lake monster or maybe a tree. and I got to play with this on the way home to make it a really crappy day: Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted May 10, 2014 Super User Posted May 10, 2014 Wow.... That's awful and a blown tire too! Hang tuff my man, hang tuff Quote

Super User Dwight Hottle Posted May 10, 2014 Super User Posted May 10, 2014 Well that just plain sucks. Your insurance might help with the trolling motor. Quote
BassnChris Posted May 10, 2014 Author Posted May 10, 2014 That really sucks and wow......... At least it waited until we got back from the road trip! Well that just plain sucks. Your insurance might help with the trolling motor. Yeah they will cover the loss............but I am wondering if the repair shop can fix it..........we recovered it. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted May 10, 2014 BassResource.com Administrator Posted May 10, 2014 Well now, it just plain ol jumped ship! May you should talk nicer to the new one. 1 Quote
BassnChris Posted May 10, 2014 Author Posted May 10, 2014 Well now, it just plain ol jumped ship! May you should talk nicer to the new one. I talked nice to this one.....let it ride in the cab of the truck to and from the road trip................it might have upset with me for letting 'someone' take the boat out without me I'm thinking I don't like the quick disconnect option................the new one will have a safety strap to keep it from falling into the water..........this one was using the Lowrance cable to enable the retrieval.....but I'm thinking they are not designed to be submerged.........right? So even though I recovered it in less than30 seconds.....its toast ? Quote
livetofish28 Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 That really sucks. I've never seen a trolling motor do that before Tight lines Andrew Quote

BassnChris Posted May 10, 2014 Author Posted May 10, 2014 That motor was only a month or so old. Quote
BassnChris Posted May 10, 2014 Author Posted May 10, 2014 The quick connect adapter failed.....I don't think it should have done that. Quote
Brian Needham Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 if this didn't happen to a super nice guy, I would think that video was funny. the TM just kinda turned and said "I'm done, see ya" boom outta here. then the tire to add insult...... Did you at least catch fish? hecka of a day Chris...... it can only get better from here. 1 Quote

Did you at least catch fish? hecka of a day Chris...... it can only get better from here. Nope,....no fish....was not out long before that happened. I was just trying to get home before we experienced the trifecta........what ever that was gonna be. It's funny.......it sucks big time.......but it is funny. I did not even speak any garage words when it happened.........I was very uncharacteristic of me.......in a very scary way. I remained very calm and showed no emotion.......I think I was in 'shock' and just kind of buttoned everything up and headed for the ramp. funny........but now I have had enough fun. I think maybe I had a faulty quick connect unit......it just busted and let loose. I'll get with motorguide this week and see if they will do anything and then post the reply.......not sure if I'm gonna go with the quick release again though......I really like the ability to remove the motor when I felt the added security was best. 1 Quote
Brian Needham Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 I am kinda speechless myself........so I can imagine how you feel. Shock indeed. was it a motorguide quick release? might get some brand loyalty pull working if it is, since I know you run MG and Lowrance package. Quote

Yep.....Motorguide.......I try to keep everything tight by using what the manufacturers recommend. Hoping for the brand loyalty...........and maybe the idea that replacing it for me is cheaper than bad word of mouth campaigns. I really like my motorguide products that I have had in the past and especially like this motor........I just want to get things back in order quickly so I don't have any fishing down time. 1 Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted May 11, 2014 Super User Posted May 11, 2014 They say bad things happen in threes. I wouldn't go anywhere near that boat for the next few days. Quote
BassnChris Posted May 11, 2014 Author Posted May 11, 2014 I thought that was just famous people dying.........that's what I'm going with......yeah that's the ticket. OR Maybe not having the right tools to change that blow out was the 3rd thing.................had to improvise and curse a lot to get it changed. Quote
papajoe222 Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 I feel for you buddy. My advice is to contact Bill Dance. He will likely have some suggestions for you. Glad to hear you kept your cool, my 'truck driver' mouth woulda surfaced for a good hour or two especially after the tire. Of course I've been known to fling expensive drivers into the water on the golf course while attempting to author some new profanity. Hope MotorGuide will at least replace the mount. 1 Quote
jhoffman Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 Whats up with that hub? Three lugs? Id be changing that out for sure. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted May 11, 2014 Super User Posted May 11, 2014 Wow. At least it didn't happen to your gas motor. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted May 11, 2014 BassResource.com Administrator Posted May 11, 2014 The quick connect adapter failed.....I don't think it should have done that. Oh I'd say it worked alright. It disconnected pretty quick! 3 Quote
Maico1 Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 You can very easily not secure the mount while turning the handle. What I have learned to do is turn down the handle some and then push up making sure that little bar is seated in the cradle and then proceed to crank it down. As far as the unit being fixable I would guess you may have fried the mother board but they are no biggie to replace... Quote
