JWOA Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 Whats your favorite? what reel do u have yours paired with? What technique do u mostly use this particular setup for ? Quote
TorqueConverter Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 7' H Extreme paired to a 6.X:1 Extreme reel. I used to use it for everything 3/8oz and up but it is now a frog rod. I'll also throw some of my heavier spinner baits and swimjigs on it too. Quote
slainempire Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 i have a 6' mf tourney special spinning rod with a bps viper 5.1:1 spinning reel. really light with plenty of backbone. i use it mostly for bank fishing it tight areas and throwing really light cranks and spinnerbaits. does the job quite well. i also have an old mean green stick from '86 paired with a zebco 20/30 spincast. i used it for years and its still awesome. its semi-retired but i still use it a couple times a year just for nostalgia. Jay Ell Gee Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 I am a big fan of the 6'8 M/XF Carbonlite spinning rod. You can pair it with a Shimano Sahara for 149.99. Not a bad rig! Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted May 11, 2014 Super User Posted May 11, 2014 I just pulled up the spreadsheet and I have 21 BPS rods (casting & spinning). Some are in 1st-line service, some are back-up, some are little used any longer. With that many rods and a lot of models I'm not sure I can identify a favorite but I can identify the most used: Casting: 7'm Crankin' Stick ($59 on sale) / 1st Gen Carbonlite (gold) reel converted to 5.2:1 gears - used for ~ 3/8oz to 5/8oz cranks. Spinning: 6'8" m/xf Extreme (the previous series - $39 on close-out) / Pflueger President XT reel - used mostly for light spinnerbaits and buzzbaits. Quote

Hogsticker Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 The old pro lite finesse rods from a few years back. They were introduced to be paired with the original gold carbonlite reels. That aside, I can't stand the powerhump cork handles. Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted May 11, 2014 Super User Posted May 11, 2014 The old pro lite finesse rods from a few years back. They were introduced to be paired with the original gold carbonlite reels. That aside, I can't stand the powerhump cork handles. I think you mean that the rods were meant to be paired with one of the three models of ProLite Finesse reel (3rd model - PRL05HC - shown on the right side of this file photo) not the 1st Gen Carbonlite reels (shown in the center and left of the photo). Same color - but different reel... Quote
Super User *Hootie Posted May 11, 2014 Super User Posted May 11, 2014 Hey Goose, do I see a BPS reel on a G Loomis GLX rod? Isn't that illegal?....lol. Hootie Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted May 11, 2014 Super User Posted May 11, 2014 I have a micro lite rod for panfish, a bionic blade that I use for crankbaits and spinnerbaits, and a pistol grip tourney special that I haven't used in years. Plenty of backbone, and they hold up great. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted May 11, 2014 Super User Posted May 11, 2014 6'6" MF Carbonlite - current model, casting. Paired with a Chronarch 50e, light, excellent feel. Only problem. One of our dogs (10 month old lab, knucklehead but we love her) stepped on the tip yesterday, broke about 4" off the top. Grrrrr. Quote
bassh8er Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 That's where all the Prolite Finesse reels that I lose on eBay auctions are going... Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted May 11, 2014 Super User Posted May 11, 2014 Have a carbonlite reel matched on a 7'6"MH crankin rod. Use this combo for my lighter A-Rigs, nice, light, strong, and has just the right action and give for the application. Loved the reel so much had to get 2 more to go with my extremes, which one is paired to an older Bionic 7'6"MH. Great reels and rods. Quote
cbass12 Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 While I am a huge fan of the pro qualifier/carbonlite casting combo..... My favorite BPS rod has got to be the older full cork handle bionic blade spinning rod. I've got a 7' M/F and a 6'6" ML/F. The 7' has a sahara on it and is my most versatile spinning rod. I'll use it for drop shot, shakyheads, swimshads, tubes, and so on. The 6'6" has a sedona on it and is mainly for crappie and trout. Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted May 11, 2014 Super User Posted May 11, 2014 Currently I use a carbonlite 7ft MH, paired with a Revo S. In the past, years ago, I used tourney specials. Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted May 11, 2014 Super User Posted May 11, 2014 Hey Goose, do I see a BPS reel on a G Loomis GLX rod? Isn't that illegal?....lol. Hootie Hey Hootie - good eye! It's not illegal...but it does open one up for bashing.... The last couple hundred bass that I've caught with that combo haven't been insulted by being reeled in with a BPS Carbonlite that I know of......... That's where all the Prolite Finesse reels that I lose on eBay auctions are going... Once quite a while ago we were bidding against each other and you won. After that, I realized that three ProLite "C's" were enough and I haven't bid on one in a long time. They're all yours... 1 Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted May 11, 2014 Super User Posted May 11, 2014 I have a few of the BPS Extreme 7'4" medium action rods. They were originally marketed as a Woo Davis Special. At one seminar I went to , he recommended this particular rod for all lighter pitching activities. I bought one and tried it for pitching - didn't like it - too "tippy" for me. Later on - one or two seasons later - who remembers - I decided to use that rod for throwing square bills. I think that rod is a great square bill rod. It has enough tip that you can get good distance using a Jimmy Houston type roll cast and enough backbone that should you get bit you can lean on that fish a lot. Originally, I didn't think much of the handle, but now I've modified the handles quite a bit using a couple of rolls of bicycle handlebar tape and now they fit my hand great Quote
deadadrift89 Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 Love my Carbonlite 6'9"MH xfast great t-rig rod. Also have 2 Carbonlite 7' MH fast which make good all purpose rods--swim jigs, chatterbaits, traps spinnerbaits,etc..... Quote
