Shoutout To All The Females Down South..

Being as how I havent fished my whole life, and only have a few years experience of actually strictly targeting bass Im still learning the ins and outs of the spawning season. I live in NC where the weather has been a steady 75-85 degrees for quite some time now, and I really am not sure what phase of the spawn we are in, but lately it seems like all Im catching is smaller males. Dont get me wrong, Im not complaining, catching a handful of two pounders is fun, Im just curious as to where I would have to look to find bigger fish. I fish neighborhood ponds mostly, and there is a lack of visably structure around about 80% of them. It also seems like the smaller ponds are the ones Im catching the most at, only a few feet off the bank. Alot of people would probably say to try and go deeper, but I dont see any of these ponds being any more than maybe 5-6 feet deep.

 

I know no one on here can say for sure what I need to do, without being on said waters, but are there any tips you guys can throw at me, or maybe would happen to guess what phase of the spawn were in down here? Iv seen no beds along the banks, but the few females Iv caught recently dont look to be full of eggs anymore. Thanks guys!

I fish a lot of shallow ponds like you. I noticed I catch bigger fish the further out I cast. I believe this isn't because the water is deeper(because its not) but because less people can cast a bait out as far as I can.

I live in Angier NC. Waters in the lakes and ponds have been 80-85 degrees since yesterday. Spawn is done here in the Raleigh area. I have been doing very well with frogs in the early evening.

Thanks 5 dollar. Last year was my first time fishing the neighborhood ponds that I now fish 90% of the time, and it seems there are a bunch of things not working for me this year that was getting bit last year.

The only fish that will touch my Squarebills and lipless cranks are dinks, and I have yet to get a senko bite.
