dulouz Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 I was just at Cabela's today and was horrified by some of the stuff they were selling at the bargain cave. Several reels were broken, missing parts, or simply just beat to hell. Yet the price was discounted only slightly. Shoes that looked like they had been worn for a month, still covered in mud. I did find a pair of braid scissors for $1. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted February 19, 2011 Super User Posted February 19, 2011 My Cabelas normaly has the same junk yours does but ocassionaly I do find a deal. Sometimes you can negociate with management. Doesn't hurt to try. Your other option is to buy new and pay full price. Quote
Super User Sam Posted February 19, 2011 Super User Posted February 19, 2011 May I add to what Slone said? DO NOT SKIMP ON YOUR EQUIPMENT!!! No, not that equipment. Your tackle. You are making an investment in your future with your rods and reels so purchase the best ones you can. Buying used equipment is a crap shoot. Buying new equipment after completing your research is the best way to go. A good reel will last you a lifetime and a rod will never go out of style if it is of good quality and you take care of it properly. Now go out and get those G. Loomis rods and the CORE reels!!! ;D ;D Quote
Revo_Carrot Stix Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 The only Bargain Cave that's nice is the one Cabela's has online. All the other's are garage sales. Quote
BassThumb Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 I have never seen junk like that at my local Cabela's Bargain Cave. Only discounted tackle that nobody wants, including myself. I agree with what Sam said for the most part, but I like buying and selling used rods. Since they aren't mechanical, it's less of a risk that you'll get gypped. Quote
shootermcbob Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 If you watch closely, you can at times find items in the bargain that are new, unused, and being "phased" out or "remodeled" for the next year. I saw quantum energy rods in the bargain for 49.00 still with the plastic wrap on them. As mentioned earlier, it is a crap shoot and timing is everything. One last point, Cabela's will match their bargain cave/on-line prices at their retail stores. Many times they have items on the shelf at full retail, but they are on sale online at drastically reduced prices. Quote

I got burned once on a reel, saw it $30 less in their catalogue. Now every time I go there I make sure I look up the price online first and make sure they match it instore. Quote

Doesn't hurt to try. Your other option is to buy new and pay full price. This is true. I got them down to $175 on a brand new St. Croix Legend Tournament, because they wasn't going to carry them anymore. If the product has a orange price tag on it that is the lowest they will go. If not you may be able to bargain with them. At least that's how it is at the Wheeling Cabelas Quote
