Super User 00 mod Posted February 7, 2017 Author Super User Posted February 7, 2017 @Pilot. Many shad, including the most popular threadfin shad, have chartreuse coloring to them: https://images.search.yahoo.com/images/view;_ylt=AwrB8pEl45lYThwAqFounIlQ;_ylu=X3oDMTIzMmdtZmNyBHNlYwNzcgRzbGsDaW1nBG9pZAM3YzFmNzE3ODk2M2NkOTM2MWJlY2U0ZTA5NDg1NjY5YQRncG9zAzE2BGl0A2Jpbmc-?.origin=&back=https%3A%2F%2Fimages.search.yahoo.com%2Fyhs%2Fsearch%3Fp%3Dthreadfin%2Bshad%26fr%3Dyhs-mozilla-001%26fr2%3Dpiv-web%26hsimp%3Dyhs-001%26hspart%3Dmozilla%26tab%3Dorganic%26ri%3D16&w=2000&h=1590&imgurl=gallery.nanfa.org%2Fd%2F12997-4%2FDorosoma%2Bpetenense%2BThreadfin%2BShad_001.jpg&rurl=http%3A%2F%2Fgallery.nanfa.org%2Fv%2Fmembers%2FUland%2FFamily%2BClupeidae%2FDorosoma%2FDorosoma%2Bpetenense%2BThreadfin%2BShad_001.jpg.html%3Fg2_imageViewsIndex%3D2&size=376.8KB&name=Dorosoma+petenense+Threadfin+Shad<%2Fb>&p=threadfin+shad&oid=7c1f7178963cd9361bece4e09485669a&fr2=piv-web&fr=yhs-mozilla-001&tt=Dorosoma+petenense+Threadfin+Shad<%2Fb>&b=0&ni=21&no=16&ts=&tab=organic&sigr=146arh436&sigb=149duh79v&sigi=125mg5gsa&sigt=118opa504&sign=118opa504&.crumb=/G9o3ZE30n0&fr=yhs-mozilla-001&fr2=piv-web&hsimp=yhs-001&hspart=mozilla https://images.search.yahoo.com/images/view;_ylt=AwrB8pEl45lYThwAulounIlQ;_ylu=X3oDMTIzZDJqMDM4BHNlYwNzcgRzbGsDaW1nBG9pZANmNjM5YjNjNTEwNDA5NmEzY2I2MjBkZDFjMDFhNWE5MQRncG9zAzM0BGl0A2Jpbmc-?.origin=&back=https%3A%2F%2Fimages.search.yahoo.com%2Fyhs%2Fsearch%3Fp%3Dthreadfin%2Bshad%26fr%3Dyhs-mozilla-001%26fr2%3Dpiv-web%26hsimp%3Dyhs-001%26hspart%3Dmozilla%26tab%3Dorganic%26ri%3D34&w=768&h=323&imgurl=anglersclub.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2015%2F11%2FThreadfin-Shad.jpg&rurl=http%3A%2F%2Fanglersclub.com%2Ftips%2Fbaitfish%2F&size=82.5KB&name=Threadfin+Shad<%2Fb>&p=threadfin+shad&oid=f639b3c5104096a3cb620dd1c01a5a91&fr2=piv-web&fr=yhs-mozilla-001&tt=Threadfin+Shad<%2Fb>&b=0&ni=21&no=34&ts=&tab=organic&sigr=1150m2fba&sigb=149cra42s&sigi=11ts5q034&sigt=10lg9fgif&sign=10lg9fgif&.crumb=/G9o3ZE30n0&fr=yhs-mozilla-001&fr2=piv-web&hsimp=yhs-001&hspart=mozilla To me it is almost match the hatch with this color. When a crank is bombing through the water, I think the ish see chartreuse and think it is a fleeing threadfin! Jeff 1 Quote

bagofdonuts Posted February 7, 2017 Posted February 7, 2017 Citrus shad is my #1 color for deep crankin in the summer. I fish a big muddy river, but it clears in the summer and the citrus shad bite is on. Always have one tied on July thru September. 1 Quote
BassObsessed Posted February 7, 2017 Posted February 7, 2017 Sometimes they aren't too picky about color and if it resembles bait where they live. 2 Quote
Super User RoLo Posted February 7, 2017 Super User Posted February 7, 2017 Jeff is spot-on! I'm sure that most are familiar with the "Day On The Lake" series. About a year ago, I had access to an overview sheet of the results to that point in time. Along with many other statistics, I tallied all the winning color patterns for crankbaits. The clear winner was "Citrus Shad", which had the strongest showing of any plug pattern. Roger 3 Quote
