Balshy Fishing Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 I recently bought a pack of senkos, finesse worms and zoom lizards. I only dropshot with those and I do it from the bank. I have regular jig heads as well. so should I just hook it up, get it level and watch my line to wiggle as its kept tight? I see people raving about these things so I figure I'll give it a try. I also have eagle claw pre tired hooks so the hook stands away from the original line. Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted May 9, 2014 Super User Posted May 9, 2014 What's makes the stick bait so attractive to bass, is there horizontal fall. Drop shotting a stickbait will definitely effect this. Lizards different story. With stickbaits you can rig them wacky which really accentuates the horizontal fall or texas rig it with little to no weight. Just my .02 Quote
Balshy Fishing Posted May 9, 2014 Author Posted May 9, 2014 Okay, appreciated. I see a lot of people using that Palomar knot and having the hook on the line but I was never taught that way. I have the hook hanging off the original line. Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted May 9, 2014 Super User Posted May 9, 2014 Okay, appreciated. I see a lot of people using that Palomar knot and having the hook on the line but I was never taught that way. I have the hook hanging off the original line. When you rig a drop shot you tie a palomar and leave a long tag end, the tag end hangs down and you attach the weight to that and the hook will hang out the side but you have to run the linethrough the hook eye from the back side of the hook otherwise the hook will be point down on the line. Now as for rigging, I would use a shaky head for the finesse worms, a weightless Texas rig or wacky rig for the Senko, and a weighted Texas rig for the lizard if I'm fishing from shore. The only way I use the drop shot is in the boat but that is just me, I do better using a drop shot in a near vertical position by making a shot cast and letting it sink into deep water, if I'm trying to search for fish across a flat I feel the shaky head is a better option, drop shot is more about being on fish than searching for them as you would be from shore. Balshy Fishing Posted May 9, 2014 Author Posted May 9, 2014 Alrighty, I strictly fish frome the shore so idk how much that'll effect drop shotting Quote
michang5 Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 I primarily fish from the bank. I've probably caught the most fish with a wacky senko rig and a drop shot rig. I fish the drop shot horizontally -- cast it out, slowly drag/twitch back. My personal best 7.25# LMB was caught with a drop shot GYCB shad-shaped worm from the bank. Was dragging it across a grass bed with a long tag end between the hook and weight. I've honestly only ever caught one fish drop shotting vertically and that was from a canoe in about 20' of water next to a bridge piling. I've caught probably 50-75 fish fishing vertical. I typically fish the DS with nose-hooked finesse worms, trick worms, tiny flukes, roboworms, and other smaller baits. Quote
