unageo09 Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 I am cruising the Bass Pro website and come across the YUM Y2 Dingers. I've never used them before but I guess this year is just a good as time as any to begin. My question is what color do you recommend? There are a bunch to chose from. I will probably try to rig them wacky style I guess. Quote
Mr SwimJig Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Watermelon Red Flake, Green Pumpkin or June Bug are my favorites. SJ Quote
Oscar O. Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 I would have to agree and go with a color or two that are proven to work for bass or colors you normally use that are productive, that way you can compare it to other baits in the same color and see if it's worth a place in your tacklebox. And to see if the bait itself helps you catch more fish, you can get a pack in a color that you may have not had as much success with or less confidence in, that way you can see if the bait itself is helping your catch rate and not so much the color. I hope that made some sense Quote
WanderLust Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 All excellent suggestions. In order for production for me: 1) Watermelon 2) Watermelon with red 3) Junebug 4) Watermelon with the chartuese tail Quote
unageo09 Posted March 15, 2011 Author Posted March 15, 2011 Thanks for the suggestions. As always, I'm taking notes. When fishing wacky style, you rig the hug in the middle of the worm but do you let it float all the way to the bottom and then bring it back to the surface and repeat until it gets to the boat? Quote

Vinny Chase Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Same as every other plastic: Watermelon Watermelon/Red Black/Blue Quote

You don't need to bring it all the way back to the surface but definitely experiment with different retrieves to see which the fish react best to. There's no one set and "right" way to fish a bait, so play around with the retrieve and let the fish tell you what they like best. Quote
pussiwillow Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 watermelon red flake, green pumpkin and junebug, junebug has been my best producer Quote
MNGeorge Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Don't forget white of some kind...by far our best producer on river Smallies. Quote
Super User Big Bait Fishing Posted March 15, 2011 Super User Posted March 15, 2011 cajon neon and greenpumpkin . as far as hooks , the best ones for the 5" dinger are Owner wacky hooks in 1/0 !!! Quote
WanderLust Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Don't forget white of some kind...by far our best producer on river Smallies. Yes sir. Although weightless white fluke is like candy to river smallies here. Quote
BassThumb Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Some would say it doesn't matter what color your Senko-type baits are, that it's the wiggle that entices the bass to strike and the color has very little to do with it. At the same time, other people swear by certain colors and have poor results with others. I'm inclined to think that color in fact does matter, just the same as with any other lure. Oddly enough, some of my go-to jig and soft plastic colors like black/blue, junebug, and green pumpkin have produced very few Senko fish for me, while watermelon/black flake, watermelon/red flake, watermelon/cream laminate, and white work like gangbusters in my local waters. Super User deaknh03 Posted March 15, 2011 Super User Posted March 15, 2011 I like the green pumpkin with the chartreuse tail. Quote
briantoledo Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 what types of hooks do most of you use for wacky worm rigging. I to am new to wacky style this year. been looking at different senko type worms. Saw gamaktsu had some wide gaps in 2/0 some recommended. also do u use the weighted finesse hooks for wacky rig such as 2/0 with1/8 oz head? interested in size of weight, brand/type hooks, and hook sizes you use. thank you Quote
