Last year I was catching a bunch of fish on a Spro Frog.  My rod was heavy and the reel gave me a blister so I got a new rod and reel.  Got a 7' MH Fast action Mojo Bass Rod.  It says Spinnerbait on it, but it seemed like a prefect rod for the Frog so I got it.  ANyway, I have been throwing the Spro Popper which I hadnt thrown before and I had 2 bites that I connected on, but the fish threw the bait about halfway back to me. Both times the hooks were flipped around to the bottom of the frog.  Wasnt sure if it was the frog or what, so I put a frog on that I caught 10-15 bass on last year. Got a bite, reeled down to the weight...Set the Hook, Felt the fish on there, and it got off again.  Hooks were the right way this time, didnt flip them.  ANyway, I can rule out the frog now as the reason I didnt catch the first two.  What am I doing wrong?  Im considering putting my new reel, which is the Curado 6G on the old rod. I think the old lighting rod is stiffer, giving better hook sets. Could it be that the tip is faster so my hooksets need to be stronger than before?  Losing 3 fish is annoying, especially cause I dont remember losing any like that ever before.  Can yall help pinpoint my problem?  By the way, been using 50 lb power pro on both. Thanks friends

I use the same rod with no issues and braid in the 50-65# range. Maybe give it a harder hook set. Mine are pretty aggressive.

The first two sound like you may have gotten a little too excited lop that's my downfall with frog fishing... the third fish could be 1. Your Hooksett... make sure you give it to her pretty hard loll. 2. Could be your reel.. I use a 7.1.1 ratio for frog fishing that seems to help a lot.

Start with the basics.  Are the hooks sharp?

User error... Plain and simple. Sorry if you don't like hearing that.

I've experienced this exact same problem.  What I found was that the bait was sitting vertical (up and down, nose up) in the water and the fish were chomping down on the bait folding it in half, completely missing the hooks.  I'd feel the fish and then feel the bait pop out of the fishes closed mouth on the hook set.  It's a sickening feeling when It's big fish too.

I'd say it's time to change bait as your bait is most likely taking on water and then sitting vertical in the water.  I switched away from the Matzuo frog that was having problems back to the popping Pad Crasher and it was problem solved.
