Super User MarkH024 Posted May 8, 2014 Super User Posted May 8, 2014 This will be my collective thread of 2014 fishing reports, videos and pictures. Thanks for looking. I fished the Wisconsin opener on 5/3/14. Despite battling a 100 degree fever and flu symptoms, we made it out and had a heck of a day on the water. It was windy (what else is new) and still on the cool side with about a 50 degree air temp. Water was consistently 48-50 between Saturday and Sunday. Water was slightly stained and weed growth was down considerably. The key to finding fish was the greenest vegetation in the main lake. We only caught a few off the shore line so most of our efforts were focused in the middle over the top of fresh green. Fish were still in prespawn and had landed a number of females full of eggs. On Saturday alone we boated over 35 fish with a few of them being pike and crappie but mostly all bass. My brother and I both landed fish just under 5lbs each . All in all, good fishing, good times and great to be out on the water again. My first fish came within the first 10 minutes on Saturday casting a KVD 1.5 in Bluegill on a Chronarch Ci4+ and a Dobyns 705cb glass. This was the first time using this setup as I had acquired it during the winter months. Man, what an amazing set up! The reel casts like a dream and is smooth as silk. The Dobyns glass rod is absolutely perfect for squarebills and shallow cranks. I don't believe I lost 1 fish the entire weekend on that rod and I even threw lipless cranks with it as well. By far one of my top 3 favorite rods that I own. I was also catching fish on a KVD J300 jerkbait in Ayu and Sexy Shad. I'm not a great hard jerkbait fisherman but had a ton of fun catching a few on that bait. The most productive/dominating bait of the weekend was the Siebert Outdoors Fogy (chatterbait) in Bluegill paired with a Green Pumpkin/Purple and Gold flake menace trailer with a coating of Megastrike. I was throwing this bait on my 7'1 MH/F Rage rod with a Ch 50e and Yo Zuri 12#. The bass were HAMMERING this bait. The bait comes through weeds really well and I was able to control my depth quite easily. There were a few spots of early sprouting lily pads under the surface that I would run the bait through and just get annihilated. It didn't take me long to forget about that flu I was carrying. I also played around with my Core 100mg7 and DX745 with a Siebert Dredge Jig in Fry color paired with a June bug Rage craw. Unfortunately, not a big jig bite for me this weekend and the only fish I picked up on it spit my hook on the first breach. The combo itself is magical and just fishing it I was in awe. I have quickly taking a very big liking to Dobyns rods just in one outing. This rod will be put to use a lot this year. GoPro users read this: Now for the bad.......... I had about 16-20 fish recorded on my GoPro for the entire day of Saturday. All was good until Sunday morning I went to start the camera only to get a "No SD" card reading. I was panicked so I checked my other card which was fine and batteries which all worked. Come to find out, the Scan Disk Micro SD XC1 64gb is known to fail in time, especially within a GoPro camera. Why GoPro promotes this card with so many recorded failures on the internet (i'm now aware of after reading extensively) is mind boggling to me. I have used this card for an entire season with no problems until this trip and now the card is toast. Expensive little card to just up and fail like it did. I will never buy that brand again and if you own one, please tread carefully when using yours. I lost a lot of great footage that I was really looking forward to compiling for everyone to watch. Thankfully my brother had his digital camera to at least get stills of most of the fish we caught. 5 Quote

mnbassman23 Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 Don't know how i missed this Mark but great fish! Looks like you had a heck of an opener and a good multi species smack down. I'm finally getting over being sick as well. No time for that crap now that open water season has arrived. 1 Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted June 24, 2014 Author Super User Posted June 24, 2014 It's been forever and a day since I've been fishing but I finally made a trip up north to my place last weekend. Weather was horrible with on and off thunderstorms which seemed to show up at every opportunity I got to get in the boat. Fishing for the start of the summer was not so great. Water temps were around 77 degrees. I thought I'd absolutely hammer them on a frog bite but that was far off. I had to work for every bite I got and there just wan't a consistent pattern I could find. Big fish came on my Dobyns 766c punching a Rage Bug in the slop. She weighed 4-09. Second biggest was 4lb even and the rest were in the 2-3.5lb range. One 3-09 bass was on a Siebert brush jig paired with a Summer Craw Rage Bug. One fat gator pike decided to have my Siebert Fogy in Bluegill with a Twin Menace trailer. She measured 28" and has been eating well and forming a nice shovel head. Here's a few pics of my fish. Video wasn't the best, not sure I'll even bother with a clip, but will update if I do. I was mentally out of the game all around... Next time will be better. 3 Quote

Super User MarkH024 Posted June 24, 2014 Author Super User Posted June 24, 2014 About time you gave us an update. Those pads in the background really look inviting. Yea that isn't even the meat and potatoes of the lake in any of those pics. I was completely stumped as I usually will get half a dozen fish or more from the main lake pads but it was a ghost town. I think the storms just made them super finicky. The overcast skies and modest water temps was plenty of good sign to have a killer weekend but I was missing something.. Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted June 24, 2014 Author Super User Posted June 24, 2014 Oh, I also forgot to mention I kicked my DX745c and CoreMG7 over the side of the boat. Luckily with my cat like reflexes I grabbed it on the descent down. I about had a heart attack as that would have made for a REALLY bad weekend. Thanks for the kind words guys Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted June 28, 2014 Author Super User Posted June 28, 2014 Added video finally.(in the last report) Excuse the narrow view. Stupid me. 1 Quote
