bigbass49 Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 I am looking to get some good rain gear for the upcoming season. I am not really sure how much I want to spend maybe 250 to 300 tops but if I could find something that's cheaper and still good that would be fine. I see cabelas has this stuff called dry plus witch is a little bit cheaper then the groe tex stuff. Quote
Falkus Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Bass Pro Shop Pro Qualifer is the way to go .. I got both jacket and Bib on sale and its the best investment that I ever made related to fishing. Quote
bigbass49 Posted March 15, 2011 Author Posted March 15, 2011 thanks for the info I will check it out. Quote
K.Fox Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 I bought a Cheaper suit from Gander Mt. Cost me just under 200 for both the bibs and Jacket. I got soaked. Ill never go cheap on rain gear again.. I went and spent the money for the gor-tex 100mph suit @ Bass Pro. Its been a great investment.. From my experience I wouldn't go cheap on rain gear.. Quote
soopd Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 I purchased the Frogtoggs Firebelly series and it was $120 for the bibs and jacket. I fished in a downpour for 8 hours and never got wet. They are not anything like the old Frogtoggs. Quote
jokerjp1301600387 Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Another vote for FroggToggs....affordable and will keep you bone dry. It's not "warm" gear however, so get it big enough to layer clothes underneath. I own both the firebelly and toadrage jackets and I'm happy with them both. Quote
Bassnajr Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 I don't know if you are a member of T.B.F. (The Bass Federation/F.L.W.) If you are, they have a rainsuit (bibs and jacket) for $67.00 shipped. They are made by Stearns...good quality. If you get the F.L.W. magazine, there is a good chance you are a member. Good luck! Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted March 15, 2011 Super User Posted March 15, 2011 Whatever brand of rain gear you get, especially in the higher end stuff, be sure to try it on first, and try to have on roughly the same layers you'll wear when you are using it. Everyone is different. When I tried on the BPS 100 mph suit, it just didn't fit right. The Cabelas Guide Wear, in the same size, fit me real well. Some guys like the bibs with a parka. I find the bibs with the shorter jacket easier to fish in. I like the frog toggs in moderate temperature, and I've never had any performance issues with them. Quote
central.PA.bass Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 I have found that if you fish naked, you don't have to worry about your clothes getting wet Quote
fishn hard Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 I have found that if you fish naked, you don't have to worry about your clothes getting wet ive done that at night in a down pour Quote
bassman31783 Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 Academy has their own brand that works great. Been a while since I've worn mine but if I'm not mistaken it's Academy's H2O Express series. Quote
OH-bass614 Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 i bought the gander mtn brand and the parka is good and keeps me dry but the bibs flat out suck. my lower half gets wet all the time. im looking into the new under armour stuff if not that then the pro qualifier gear i have heard nothing but good about it. Quote
breezy Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 Does anyone have experience with the frog toggs that are ~$50? I have some good cold weather rain gear but I'm currently using some really cheap stuff from walmart when it's warmer. It keeps me dry but I hate the design and don't expect them to last very long. I don't want to spend much but the frog toggs seem to get mixed reviews on the BPS site. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted March 16, 2011 BassResource.com Administrator Posted March 16, 2011 Cabela's Guide Wear all the way baby! Nothing better. Quote
shootermcbob Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 I have found that if you fish naked, you don't have to worry about your clothes getting wet Sounds like a good idea...but you really, really have to watch out for "snags"! ;D ;D That fishing naked thing could really add an unpleasant level to worm fishing ;D I also have cabela's guide wear and some rain suede. No problems with either. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted March 16, 2011 Super User Posted March 16, 2011 Cabela's Guide Wear all the way baby! Nothing better. Cabela's has their Guide Wear on sale several times throughout the year. In this part of the country, uninsulated is the way to go. Layer on additional clothing as needed. <-------------- 8-) Quote
bpNClgmouth Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 Just got my Columbia PFG Supercell Gear and its by far the best IMO. Most breathable and useful for fishing. Quote
Cire Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 I believe that I have the Cabelas EXV Gore-tex. I waited until it was on clearance to get mine and didn't have much choice for color but for less than half price you can't beat the value. I have not had an issue with them yet after 2 years. crappiekid24 Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 I have the Cabelas EVX Gore-tex as well. Its a great suit for the money. Has kept me dry in rain, wind and spray. Quote
