Baitcasters , I Have Seen The Light .

Finally went out with my first casting rod and baitcaster combo (st croix lbt and daiwa tatula type r with 8lb fluoro all recommended buy you guys in my previous posts ).

After watching a video on here on how to set and cast a baitcaster I went down to my local canal and pretty much picked up casting within 20-30 minutes .

A few backlashes to begin with but as said it's all in the thumb baby aye.

The more I cast the better I got .

I was able to have the brakes on settings 2-4 and the tension spool knob set at a fairly fast drop and only using 1 jig and trailer combo to get used to it , I was absolutely blown away with the speed I am able to cast out and after retrieving cast it back out again .

The distance I could achieve when I really punched it out there had me drooling at the mouth and the smoothness of the reel on the cast, feeling the line coming off the spool under the lightest hover of my thumb and the control of the lure before hitting the water to produce a quieter sound on entry was ridiculously sick .

The enjoyment of reeling back in and not to mention the playing of fish was so much fun , It feels like I'm just in my element aye.

To cut a long story short I missed 3 perch from 1lb to about 4lb and 2 jack pike from about 4-7lb

and realised the cheap ebay jig heads I had purchased with eagle claw hooks wasnt really piercingly sharp enough, which I will correct but enjoyed it all anyway .

I was determined to really drive the hook into the next bite that came along .

My last cast as it had got dark and I felt a subtle vibi knock that I just ripped into, not sure if it was a bite or not and hey, what do you know fellas?

An 11lb 2oz pike which gave a good account of itself slid over my awaiting landing net .

It wasn't my European perch target but was more than welcome . (I was absolutely buzzing ).

It's my first predator full stop and it was a shame the picture didn't come out too well but a picture all the same aye.

How this type/style of reel is so rarely used over hear is down right moronic in my opinion and I'm not saying spinning reels don't have there place because obviously they do , but WOW .

Ive just purchased a daiwa steez 100sha to go with a g loomis nrx jig and worm casting rod that I'm looking to purchase this week for my second combo and also eyeing up an abu garcia revo (mgx is it ???) to go with a frog/surface rod I'm also looking to purchase before the weed growth really kicks in aye.

Nice work!!!  Congrats on the new rig.  They are nice.  Hardly use my spincasters anymore.

Yeah, baitcast reels are a blast.  I grew up on spinning reels.  Switched to baitcast reels when I got back into fishing in '09.  Be careful.  The Bait Monkey will get a grip on you and not let go.  Fishing in my area sucks.  Only thing that keeps me fishing is my gear.  Received my 41st baitcast reel about 3 weeks ago.  You need to give one of the T3 1016 reels that TW has on sale a try.

 

Congrats on the nice gear you already have.  Personally can't afford the better Loomis rods, but from what I read I think the NRX will blow you away.  Best of luck.

Funny title, I was just going to use it myself but vise versa. Spinning tackle has turned my fishing around this year. I might never go back to casting tackle.

I'll add to this I have also seen the light as well!

Had a right handed revo STX for about a year, my girlfriend got it for me as a gift. Spooled it up and didn't like the BC so I stuck with my spinning. About 2 months ago me and my buddy decided to REALLY learn the BC, trying to convert my other buddy but he is stubborn he won't even get a scale LMAO U KNOW WHO YOU ARE IF YOU READ THIS LOL. We both liked the feel of a left handed BC so I was using that for a little and kept gettig frustrated by my birdsnest so I semi gave up again, we both had an Abu Garcia Silver Max. Then few weeks later I picked it up again and decided to trade in my Revo STX in a get a left handed version. For whatever reason I picked it up and put it on my rod and realized idk what I was so turned off by before because this feels more natural than what it did when I was using my left hand to reel lol (I use my left for spinning). So long story short I use my baitcast for everything I throw (1 set up for just frogs other is for cranks, chatterbaits, etc) but I still use my spinning for soft plastics I'm sure that might change when I get another reel. Right now I have an Abu Garcia Revo SX and Abu Garcia Revo STX and a Quantum Smoke on the way to the house.

I am a believer now!!! Funny first bass that I caught on my Revo SX was a 8.1lb on a *** frog... That would make a believer out of anybody

Love the name Ted Striker btw. Congrats on the bait casting combo and more props on the new combo. Once you get the hang of the baitcasting gear, you wonder why you didn't do it sooner.

wait till you have so much gear you feel obligated to sell some before buying more. Blow out 20 packs of $6-$8 a bag baits for like $30 just cause you dont even fish them anymore, not cause they dont work but because you have an addiction.
