jtesch Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 I broke my gen1 Cumara last fall and Shimano replaced it for me with a gen2. The rod I broke was a 6'3" m casting rod', a tiny little thing I used for poppers. The closest they have now is 6'8" M/F worm and jig rated to 1/4 ounce. This thing is LIGHT and the blank is THIN. I have been using it for a few weeks and all I can say is "WOW", sensitive doesn't even begin to describe it. I've been throwing a 5/16 swim jig and every little reed or branch I bump feels like a hit. So far I've used it for swim jigs, jerk baits and lipless cranks and it handles them all fine. Catching several 1-11/2 pound fish I got the feeling a bigger fish might be a load for this little rod. Today a few bigger fish finally moved shallow in my area and while tossing the swim jig I got a big swirl and a hit. 3-1/2 pound bass was no problem for the rod. Cumaras never cease to amaze me with how such light little rods can load up on a bigger fish. I think this rod may take the spinning rod out of my hands for fishing wacky worms this year. Arv Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Gotta agree with the review. I picked up one of the 6'8 m/f spinning rep rods and it is a fun rod to fish. I like using Dobyns for the most part and I've been trying to justify getting rid of this one to get a different Dobyns so I can match across the board, but I just can't. The Cumara does not leave me wanting any in performance or feel in my hands. Quote
Cgrinder Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Yep, the 6'8" MF is a great rod. I'm glad you're happy with it. Even though it's only rated up to 1/4 oz, 5" Senkos and 3/8 oz hardbaits are well within its capabilities. I think you'll be very pleased should you choose to throw wacky worms on it. Quote

War Eagle 44 Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 I'm in agreement with you fella's, the Cumara A rods are super sensitive. I'd put them at or very close to GLX level. I only have one, that being the umbrells rig rod, but I kept telling myself I was going to buy more I just never have. I'm interested in the new Expride rods from Shimano at the moment, or the new Loomis IMX. The handle definitely takes a little getting used to but once you do you won't even notice it anymore. I've had days where it was the only rod I picked up all day and I've never had any problems. I figured if I was going to have trouble using them this would be the technique to let me know if they got uncomfortable or not. Whole days worth of A-Riggin' and nothing to complain about yet. I wish they were a different color but that's a personal preference deal. They are quite nice looking in the sun though. I also know what you mean by thin blanks, I was very skeptical that this rod was going to be able to consistently take throwing average A-Rig weights but it doesn't even break a sweat. Really good rods. Quote

I think it depends on how you hold the rod while casting. I tend to palm the reel when I cast and the short handle doesn't come into play at all. However casting like "normal" with one finger in front of the trigger puts a lot of my hand on the exposed blank. Otherwise, it's very comfortable. For reference I use a CH51E and a Sol on the rod. Can't speak for the casting rods, but the spinning reel seat is no problem. That was my biggest hold back in getting one as well, and while I still prefer cork, I have no issues with holding the rod. This is one of the biggest things to me with fishing gear. Essentially I don't want to "think about it" when I'm fishing if that makes sense. I don't want the fact that a rod and reel aren't balancing well, or my reel isn't casting as far as I'd like, etc. to distract me. So far the Cumara lives up to these standards. Quote

I could see if you tend to put your trigger finger on the rod trigger when you cast it could be uncomfortable but this isn't a rod built for making long cast after long cast. Quote

I tell you I have been so Close on that rod series and always the little bity Eva grip was the killer for me... I suppose I will Just have to give one a whirl and see!
