Cyklops99 Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 Alright... Took the boat out the other day, trolling motor worked like a champ, I loaded the boat when done, and came home. It's a hand control one, so I gave the handle a twist as I put it away and nothing! I charged the battery thinking it was that... And still nothing. It's acting like it's not getting any power, then I took off the prop thinking perhaps fishing line was twisted around it or something, and it was not loose, but felt a little wobbly, had some play in it for sure. As I took it off a small pin appeared to have broken.. The pin was behind the prop, now immediately before I loaded the boat, I did hit a submerged.. Something.. Not sure, and the motor did have a wobble.. Didn't run it long with wobble, enough to notice one... Then loaded the boat up... Did I fry my motor? Quote

When I spin the prop with my finger, it doesn't spin freely, kinda jumpy... If that means a bad bearing, would this completely block the prop shaft from spinning when on? You are lucky, in that one of the best trolling motor repair shops/electronics dealers is in your neighborhood. I remember driving there when I had an alumaducer installed in my boat, but I don't remember exactly where I drove to. Anyway, google them and have them look at your motor. They do good work - at least my experiences with them have been positive. Quote
ShimanoDobynsGuy Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Buy Buy a Motor guide.. Problem solved.. Jk.. I had the ipiolt on my boat didn't have any issues with it.. Now I did buy the motor guide xi5 and have been told to make sure it's unplugged when stored cause if not the the gps will draw a low current and will burn the motor up. Probably not your issue but worth looking into. I called motor guide on mine and they told me the same thing make sure it's unplugged after each use and do not hard wire it.. I am not intrested in all that GPS navigation stuff. problem is good luck finding a bow mount trolling motor under $300. what's the name of the trolling motor repair place? I do have a motorguide transom mount I'll be using until I can save enough for a bow mount. don't know if a 23 lb thrust will move my boat or not... (it's only a 15' '86 basstracker..) basically a glorified jon boat with a 40 horse on back. Quote

I actually found a lightly used MK Maxxum 70lb in the Flea Market on here for $200 last year Quote

Tri-State Trolling Motors in Hazelwood is where I got my alumaducer installed and I live outside of KCMO. They were the only people I could find who (a) knew what an alumaducer was and ( had installed several of them. Quote
