Today was the first time using my new setup with power pro braid.  My first thoughts on the braid with a leader was "I like this already". It felt really good and had I had a great feel for everything happening in the water.  But anyway, I used an Improved Albright knot to connect my braid to fluoro and it held up good after the first fish.  I was just wondering how often I should cut off the knot and tie a new knot?  Does this know weaken after time? Thanks

probably once a trip. It does weaken when its passed through guides on cast. But if its not passed through guides then it should last for a while.

If it's tied properly it should not weaken.  I've kept the same leader on for days and days if I'm not changing lures.

For light line I will tie the Alberto Knot. For heavier lines the

Albright works just fine.

I'd hoped to find a sticky in this sub-forum that answered all my knot questions in one place (maybe even with pictures :) )

I found a couple articles, but not one that mentions even half the knots discussed in this and another recent question post.

Sorry if this is a repetitive request, but is there a concise single page that you trust has all the knot info you need in one place (here or elsewhere.)  Thank you and sorry for the jack!!

Thanks.  That's a start.  But there's holes there, too....from this thread alone, J-knot, double uni, alberto....my head's swimming....I spent over 40 years thinking I was good with my 'improved clinch' and occasional palomar....ignorance is bliss, I suppose

I don't know a lot about tying knots connecting one type of line to another. But your improved clinch knot and palomar knot will work fine for tying line to lures. You don't need to know every knot in the book. Just one that gets the job done for each of your purposes.

If you have a smartphone or tablet, check out the knot wars app. It will tell you when, where, how, why and what flavor gum to chew while doing so.

I don't care what kind of knots or how many one knows, just no how to tie them before you leave home.  A knot is about the most basic element in fishing, if one needs an app on a phone to tie a knot, IMO that person isn't ready to fish.

First of all, I have forgotten WAY more about knots than I remember! I don't know how many times I think to myself "I remember learning the perfect knot for this application, now how did it go?....."

Anyways I thought I would post a picture of the double uni knot since I am the one that mentioned it. It is generally recommended to tie to lines together that are roughly the same diameter.

I got snagged on a log the other day, I ended up trying to get loose for about 5 mins and I ended up pulling a huge branch up.  Id say my first time using 10# braid with the improved albright knot was a success.  Didn't break off, and kept my rig.  :respect-059:

Before I really "got into fishing" I actually don't remember what kind of not I used to tie but it wasn't a good one. I could not tell you how many fish and lures I lost. You can catch a fish with a $20 walmart special or $2000 jdm work of art; if your knot skills are not up to par you will lose many fish. I only tie 3 knots alberto, snell and palomar but I can tie them well. More so then rods and reels this has improved my catching of fish.

I also will leave an alberto knot tied for days or trips on end as long as I have a long enough leader and the line isn't rough or frayed. A lot of times I'll fish the leader down to 3 inches if the fish are bitting and the monos still good with no ill effects.

The line-to-leader knot, if tied well, should hold up until you need to change the leader. That's been my experience.

I'll use a uni-to-uni, and an Albright - 7 up, 4-7 back down. Moisten, tighten, clip ends, FISH!!
