Brock1789 Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 How have y'all been pulling them out of ponds ( baits , what kind of structure , etc. ) Quote
Mccallister25 Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 Jigs around any structure and along the bank, topwater in morning and afternoon, lipless cranks and spinnerbaits in the open. squarebills and wakebaits are good too. Quote
missouribigbass Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 Been yanking them out like crazy on the grape power worm Quote
papajoe222 Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 The fish up here are still in pre-spawn, so I don't think what and where I'm catching them on would be of much help to you. However, when they do get in their summer mode, you can bet that they're going to relate to cover. The ponds here are featureless, so there is no structure for them to relate to. This makes available cover all that more important. Inside and outside weedlines and points and indentations in the weeds are all worth consideration and should be high on your list. Also, any time you see a mix of different types of weeds or a deadfall laying in the weeds, you've found a potential hiding place for the biggest fish in the area. Depending on the thickness of the vegetation, a senko rigged weedless and a frog would be my top choices in heavy weeds while a spinnerbait or Johnson Silver Minnow spoon would get the nod in the lighter stuff. If there is some structure like a creek channel and you can't get on any type of pattern in the weeds, by all means check it out with a moving bait like a spinnerbait or a crank. Good luck and don't forget the importance of catch and release on these smaller bodies of water. Quote
Super User Grizzn N Bassin Posted May 7, 2014 Super User Posted May 7, 2014 Right now it's been square bills and hudds Quote

Bass_N_Brewskis Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 Man I've been tearing me up here in va with a wacky sneko on a wacky rig weed less jig head. In my clear water ponds been using chart, oranges, reds, and whites and have been killing them. New confidence bait Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted May 7, 2014 Super User Posted May 7, 2014 Earlier it was crankbaits and plastics around wood. Now it seems to be jigs and plastics in the weeds. Quote
z7master167 Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 I was catching them on squarebills but now that the lilly pads r comin up im swimming jigs and have been slammin em. Ive also caught em on buzzbaits Quote
Mccallister25 Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 I got into the senko craze a while back, and absolutely killed big and small bass alike last summer on em.. This year? I cant buy a senko bite. I would much rather fish with other baits, but Im actually kinda lookin forward to the senko bite. Quote
