Hit a nice lake with a ton of weeds and lily pads. Me and my buddy out in the canoe.

All we caught was pickerel and one tiny bass. We couldn't believe how many we were catching. But we're stumped why no bass. We were using senkos and flippin hogs .

And to top it off I caught a good size pickerel on my top water popper frog in the Lilly's . My first ever fish with my frog. I didn't think a pickerel would it the frog? I got a ton of misses with the frog too..

All in all an awesome day, Just don't understand why the bass weren't biting? Thoughts?

A personal best day of catching for both of us....

Pickeral are a little bit annoying sometimes (stealing lures, destroying baits) but they sure are fun to catch. Like freshwater baracudas to me. Supposibly they taste good too but ive never thought aboit eating them.

Sometimes it happens. Ive had similare days. Even when I think trying to slow down or speed up retrieves might get them pickerals off my back. They still go after it lol.

I've never fished anywhere with pickeral but if they're as similar to pike as I'm guessing they are, they're probably just beating the bass to the bait. Pike will eat about anything and I'm sure pickeral are the same way. At least you were catching something!

I hate catching slimy, smelly pike. lol. And they ruin your lures.

They do taste like any other fish though.
