Trolling Motor Question

I have a 16 foot fiber glass bass boat and it has a 43 lb. thrust trolling motor. I was thinking about putting a 55 lb. thrust trolling motor on it. Will I notice the difference?

 

Also I have one trolling motor battery on board and it will not last a whole day. Will I be better off to add another battery and wire them together or get a better battery, like an optima?

You need a 24v system to move a fiberglass boat of that size. I would recommend a 65 edge bass pro has them on sale right now for $479 which is a great price considering what your getting. I would stick with (2) 29 series everstart maxx batteries.

You don't have to have a 24 trolling motor for that boat. You'll notice a difference. It probably won't be a night and day difference but it should be noticeable. A 29 series battery should last all day unless it's really windy or high current. With that being said, I'd suggest buying a 24V. They run much longer and have a LOT more power especially in thick grass. When buying a trolling motor the best way to do it is buy the highest lb thrust you can afford. If you think it's overkill, remember you can always dial them back, but you can't have a lower lb thrust motor suddenly produce more. I've got a 16' Ranger with an 82 lb thrust Motorguide on it and there have been multiple times I've been SOOO happy I had that extra power. I could fish in wind that others couldn't even hold their spot in, but I could move around fairly easily.

I totally agree with this statement.. I bought a BN pro team txw and before I even took it home changed the trolling motor to a 24 volt 80lb I also told them to take there battery's and charger out and I brought in to series 31m die hard platinum AGM batteries with a 30 amp 3 bank charger. Yea I did spend 2200.00 on these upgrades but in my opinion I use all of those items more than anything else on the boat they are the back bone.. Now you don't have to buy the top of the line like I did. But read some online reviews on the stuff your considering before you purchase.. Hope this helps you out.. I have a 17.5 ft boat and my setup will push the boat into a strong head wind 2.7 and with the wind I'm over 3.. The batteries can run 2 full 9hr days and still be half full. And I use pinpoint allot I'm changing Bates and to fish structure.. Also my Ol lady is for ever having me tie her shizzy on.. Point is you get what you pay for..
