fishingkidPA Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 ok well im going fishing this weekend and i havent done much of any cold water bass fishing. I caught one this past week with a wacky rigged senko. The water will probably be a little stained and water temps 38-45. The lake is only about 300 yards long and 100 yards wide. I will be shore fishing. The depth of the lake is not much, deepest about 6-8 feet. If you want to google map it for me and suggest what part of the lake you would fish first its called "Marshall Lake McCandless Township PA" If you google it it looks really shallow cause they had to lower it in the summer for the lower lake to drain, it is full now and has been for awhile. For my casting set up what do you think i should toss, i got jerkbaits, spinners, cranks, jigs. And for my spinnning set up do you think i should throw tubes, baby brush hogs, zoom trick worms, senkos, grubs? also how would u rig em', texas rig, carolina, or wacky? i know this is alot of info but if you could help it'd be great. thanks Quote
Rangerphil Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 The jekbait worked for me in the snow, just go slow I was pausing around 15-30 seconds in between short pulls. Good luck let me know if you do any good, going to try to get out again this week! Quote
hookingem Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Rig your casting set-up with a lipless crankbait or a jerkbait and try to trigger a reaction strike or find a fish actively pursuing a meal. Then go back and slow down with a shaky head or a Jig. Just what I would do. Quote
Mr SwimJig Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Yep jerkbait is perfect this time of year. Just fish them really slow. Very small and I mean small jerks of the rod and keep the rod tip pointed at the lure. SJ Quote
Luke at Gouldsboro Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 this time of year in Pa, whatever you think is slow, make it even slower. I"ve caught bass by throwing a jerkbait and let it sit for 5 or more minutes with a little twitch every 2-3 minutes.you could use lipless crank baits, jigs crawled really slow.. its endless, but try what you like Quote
Mr SwimJig Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Jerkbaits are great this time of year. Just work them very slowly. SJ Quote
backwater4 Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Just like the rest. A suspending jerkbait is the way to go. Use long pauses between jerks. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted March 14, 2011 Super User Posted March 14, 2011 Jerkbaits don't come alive for me until the upper 40s. I'd be useing a blade bait or hair jig. Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted March 14, 2011 Super User Posted March 14, 2011 Most of my fish this year have come on a Strike King Bitsy Pond Minnow crankbait....1 1/4" long and weighs 1/8 oz. Ghost color (all white, except for black kill dot) Blue back/chartreuse has done equally well. Same murky cold water. Go figure.... Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted March 14, 2011 Super User Posted March 14, 2011 3/4 ounce spinnerbait with a single #5 or #6 Colorado, chartreuse/white. Quote
central.PA.bass Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Run a chartruese shallow crank bait.. I really like the wiggle warts this time of year.. also, from now until July I usually catch my share of fish dragging a 4in Junebug senko.. Quote
JigMe Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Jerkbaits don't come alive for me until the upper 40s. I'd be useing a blade bait or hair jig. How do you fish hair Jig? same as a regular Jig and Pig? Quote
wisconsin heat Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 deadsticking is an absolute killer tactic! Quote
