Super User tcbass Posted May 5, 2014 Super User Posted May 5, 2014 These rods won Outdoor Life's 2013 rod of the year. For the record I've followed Outdoor Life's recommendation a few times on gear and have never been disappointed. In 2012 they said the Abu Garcia Revo SX was the best reel and won the OL best reel award, I bought one and couldn't be happier. Normally $100 each I picked up a few for $69 when they were on sale 2 weeks ago. Two casting and 2 spinning. One of them is their frog rod which is heavy fast. I sort of wish I'd picked up a topwater medium fast, instead. Was wondering if anyone has any experience with the Cabelas Tournament ZX rods and what they think of them, especially if you have any experience with the their frog rod. Quote

I have a St. Croix Mojo Bass frog rod that is heavy, fast that I never use because it's too heavy. I have slop and pads here in MN but medium has worked great for me for the last 4 years and I've caught bass up to almost 5lbs. I'll have to give the Cabelas rod a chance. The grips are awesome for sure. Quote
JLeon77 Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 I have the same cabelas flipping rod and a spinning rod, they have been great and I love the grips. Quote
robster80 Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 yea man i was surprised at how light it was especially for a 7'3 99 dollar rod i did notice 2 of my guides r slightly misaligned but nothing major its my first 7'3 rod i love picking it up Quote

Hogsticker Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Weelll....I just walked in the door from Cabelas. I needed a 2 piece for my weekend trip with the FAM. I looked hard at every Cabelas rod in the racks. Maybe 20% of them did not have globs of dried epoxy overrun, and I could not find a rod without a crooked guide. Some of them were pointed to the side of the blank. I understand the sag when they are turning 50 rods at a time, but the way crooked guides are unacceptable. I managed to find one fish eagle 50, 7 ft 2 piece that was close enough. I also got the rod for 60 bucks. If I wasn't just using it 3 times a year I would have never put it into my rotation. Quote
