Megastink Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 I bought three rage blades, 1/2oz. I like fishing my bladed swim jigs fast, but these Rage Blades always break the surface or ride just below it on the retrieve. I want it to stay in the middle (2-4ft down). I've tried bending the bill, but its flexible..... Is anyone else having this issue? Whats an angler to do? I want to fishi it quickly, and it will stay down if I slow roll it, but that defeats the purpose. Maybe I'll just stick to my Chatterbaits.... Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted May 5, 2014 Super User Posted May 5, 2014 You need to add a trailer and slow down. I fished with Big O at the outing and he was using a modified Eeliminator for the trailer. Trim both sides of the main body and you will be good to go! Quote
Megastink Posted May 5, 2014 Author Posted May 5, 2014 I was using a Havoc Beat Shad. If I have to slow my retrieve, I will just use Chatterbaits because they stay down on a fast retrieve. Thanks! Quote
doyle8218 Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 I had a similar problem also - try these the extra split ring and head design seem to keep them down better when burning. TNT Baits Claymore Jig Quote
ghost Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Same problem, I'm using Havoc Subwoofer. Both the ones I have surfaces quick. Will stick with Chatterbaits. Quote
JLeon77 Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 I had the same problem this weekend with the rage blades...will have to either try a heavier trailer or only throw them when I need them to run shallow. Quote
nascar2428 Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 After reading this thread, I went out this afternoon and threw mine for the first time. I added a pit boss as a trailer and sure enough it came to the top.. Used a 5:0:1 gear ratio. Back to my D&M bladed swim jigs. Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted May 6, 2014 Super User Posted May 6, 2014 I threw one for about 5 minutes and changed it out for a regular style bladed jig for the same reason. Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted May 6, 2014 Super User Posted May 6, 2014 I like the fact that they keep "chattering" at a super slow retrieve. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 6, 2014 Global Moderator Posted May 6, 2014 I never fish a bladed jig when I need a fast retrieve anyways, that's what spinnerbaits are for I've caught some fish with my homemade ones fishing fast, but the bigger fish always eat it when I'm fishing them slow. Hyrule Bass Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 bottom line is the bait isnt quite what you were looking for. fish it slow if your objective is to fish that bait, if you want to go fast go back to your chatterbaits...problem solved... Quote
Big-O Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 The Rage Blade is not a bottom burner bait, instead it's a 'Max Action at Slower Retrieve Speed' bait that comes through the sticks a little better than other Chatter style designs. Also good in and over grass. Also it folds up on the fall allowing it to touch down quicker than other 1/2oz designs and walks the bottom at slower pace with great vibration and slight side to side jumps or hunting action. Again it's NOT a Bottom Burner Bait as there are already many of those in existence.... and why copy them when we can make a design specific bait for a very necessary and specific use Quote
TTS Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 Caught them good today on a 3/8oz. model. Was able to crawl it just under the surface in shallow cold water. Popped out the water when reeled too fast. Great bait for the right application. Tom Quote
Megastink Posted May 7, 2014 Author Posted May 7, 2014 Indeed a niche bait. I'll hold into mine, I don't dislike them, it's just not what I expected. It does come through grass like a boss though! Quote
