Super User DogBone_384 Posted May 5, 2014 Super User Posted May 5, 2014 I'm scheming up a way to mount a transducer on my Ascend 128T that's flush with the hull's bottom. Anyone out there use a 4x3" plumbing flange & cap? Thanks, in advance, for your 2-cents. Quote
RipSomeLips Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 I have seen several videos of folks installing the transducer in the storage compartment of a sot kayak, they all say it shoots thru the bottom plastic layer fine with no defect. I would at least test it before putting a hole in my yak. I don't have a fish finder in my yak yet but have been researching doin so for a while now. Quote
B@ssCrzy Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 I used this guys idea....i have a cuda as well. Had to modify a little to make it work, but looks really nice. Not sure if it will work for your yak but is a good concept. http://headwatersfishing.blogspot.com/2013/02/home-made-jackson-cuda-scupper.html?m=1 Quote
onefinalcast Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 I just made a thread about this same topic too, except with a Cuda 12. I'll keep checking here for solutions that might work for my kayak too. Quote
TheBug Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 I have a Tarpon 120 and used Humminbird's kayak mount. Shoots through the plastic without any issues that I know of. http://www.humminbird.com/Products/MHX-XMK/ Quote
MikeinFresno Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 wet mount with a pool noodle from inside. Shape the noodle hole or foam to fit the transducer, glue the noodle or foam block to the inside of the hull, fill the hole with water and push transducer in. No bubbles this way vs a glue in. Use Goop for the glue. Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted May 25, 2014 Author Super User Posted May 25, 2014 Thanks for the replies. I'm leaning towards a temporary through-hull mount for now, until I figure out a nice way to have it exposed to the water. When I get something together I'll be sure to post it. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted May 25, 2014 Super User Posted May 25, 2014 A lot of guys use duct seal too which makes removal easier and moving it around a piece of cake. Quote
Flywatersmallie Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 I used duct seal in mine. Works great and as was said, its not permanent so there isn't any issues if you want to take it out. Only beef with that is that it takes a little time for the water temp to be accurate. Otherwise, DSI and everything works perfectly Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted May 27, 2014 Author Super User Posted May 27, 2014 I ended up with plan A: using a toilet flange from Home Depot with a 4" rubber cover to seal it on the inside. I'm pleased with how it came out. i guess now my kayak flushes?!?!?! Quote
