Elwood aka Ted Striker. Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 You alright fellas. Is it worth getting line conditioner for 8lb fluorocarbon on a daiwa tatula type r baitcaster? What are the benefits and how long does it last? Look forward to hearing you views . Cheers aye. Quote
Bassin Bob Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 I've used it, but didn't really see any benefit. I'm sure some like it, but I don't think it does much. I switched to using almost all braid (with fluorocarbon leaders) and that eliminates the need for conditioner. I also use braid with an 8 lb leader for panfish. But conditioners aren't super expensive, so maybe they could work for you. Good luck either way! 1 Quote
Texasangler14 Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 I love the KVD line conditioner. you can catch it on sale some places, but i think it is 7-10 dollars well spent. 1 Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted May 5, 2014 Super User Posted May 5, 2014 8lb fluorocarbon isn't really thick enough to have management issues. Typically, people use conditioner on stiffer lines to make them handle better. I've used KVD and didn't see much difference myself. Fluorocarbon isn't supposed to absorb water or anything like mono, so I'm not sure how it would do anything, but some folks seem to like it. Quote
RipSomeLips Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Of all the products I've ever tried kvd was the most surprisingly good results. You will never know if it will help you with the specific setup u mention because personally I think there are lots of variables possible like shelf time etc. But u can use it on all your line so for $7.99 from most major retailers it's TOTALLY worth a try. There...did I convince you? Maybe kvd will read my glowing g review and send some free product. 1 Quote
Elwood aka Ted Striker. Posted May 5, 2014 Author Posted May 5, 2014 Cheers for your responses fellas aye. I think I will try to get some as there's no harm in trying is there??????? Lol . Has anyone that's used conditioner noticed anything different with regards to catching fish, like the chemicals in the line conditioner putting the fish off or the conditioner coating making fluorocarbon more visible in water? Hey RipSomeLips there's a guy looking for ideas for the name of a jig company in the general bass forum , what about RipSomeLips jigs. Who knows maybe you could get some freebies out of that one fella aye, Lol . Look forward to hearing your views fellas . Cheers aye. Quote
Elwood aka Ted Striker. Posted May 5, 2014 Author Posted May 5, 2014 The conditioners not so much for management issues Keeper but more for improving anything that can be improved and making it smoother and even better for me aye. Have you or any of you noticed anything like this? Quote
Elwood aka Ted Striker. Posted May 5, 2014 Author Posted May 5, 2014 That was meant Twithay lol . I went for the 8lb fluorocarbon in the end Twithay aye. Good job fella . Quote
Amarley Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 I think the line conditioner works best for the larger diameter lines, but I use it on all of my mono and flouro. It saves me on 20 lb test flouro and 17 lb test mono. 1 Quote
Super User Solution WRB Posted May 5, 2014 Super User Solution Posted May 5, 2014 Don't Liston to statements that 8 lb FC doesn't need line conditioner....it still springs off a baitcaster when fishing hot and dry weather conditions. FC doesn't wet from water and you need a wet line conditions or a film that holds the moisture to tame FC line. I use a liquid line conditioner called Tangle Free, it comes in a little 2 oz squeeze bottle I keep in my pocket. What FC line are you using? I am fishing with 10# green Sunline Super Sniper FC (0.0102D) on my Tatula R-100XS reels (3) without any problems and use Tangle Free as needed. KVD needs to be applied several hours before using and hasn't worked as good for me. Stay away from Real Magic! Tom 1 Quote
fishguy613 Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 i never use conditioner personally. honestly when i see lines after its been applied, im pretty impressed. However ive never really had any issues yet using FC i stick between 4-8lb spinning and 12-20lb casting, so i dont use anything on it. Quote
OnthePotomac Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 This was sent to me years ago by the guy who developed KVD Line and Lure Conditioner. Good info. Line & Lure is a special polymer blend that becomes part of the fishing line it is applied to. Other line treatments you find on the market are primarily silicone oil and solvents. Silicone oil only temporarily coats the line and solvents can damage line. Silicone oil rapidly comes off the line (on your hands and in the water), requiring re-treatment of the line after just a few casts. The special polymers in Line & Lure are hydrophobic (water repelling) and very slippery. It doesn't allow water to draw back on to the reel spool, which eliminates the line drag that a "wet" spool has. It also protects the line from wearing out as quickly as un-treated line because it resists the abrasion that wears line out. It contains no oils or solvents as in Reel Magic that can build up and collect dirt like silicone/oil treatments will. 1 Quote
