Incognito Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 Well, seeing that the pike weren't biting, I switched over to bass fishing. I Texas rigged a Berkely Havoc Skeet's Pit on a 2/0 wide gap hook. Casting out, everything seemed normal, but once I got the lure back to the bank, everything unraveled. Thinking the retrieve was improper, I began to cast again. The same result occurred... I continued casting about ten more times until I knew something was wrong. Every time the barb of the hook was facing down. So instead of the pulling the crayfish imitation in with the eyes up, the eyes were down. I assume this is bad because the barb should be face up in the water. I tied everything as I normally do, same bait, same hooks, and had the same brand of line which was Suffix Elite 12lb mono. So, I have no clue whats happening, and it's very disheartening. In fact, I shed a tear. OK, shedding a tear wasn't true, but I'm so confused. I don't know what's causing the problem. Does tying on the hook in a certain direction matter? Please let me know. Quote
Incognito Posted May 5, 2014 Author Posted May 5, 2014 Nope, baitcaster. Sorry, probably should of included that.... Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 5, 2014 Global Moderator Posted May 5, 2014 Doesn't matter if they're upside down in the water or not. One thing I would suggest is a bigger hook though. Unless you're fishing the Pit boss Jr a 2/0 hook is going to be tiny on a regular Pit boss. Quote
boostr Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 I get this issue also on the Space Monkey Texas rigged, but shouldn't matter to the bass. I'll see it spin and go belly up when I'm cranking it in. Quote
FrankW Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Hi Incognito, For some reason you have the weight bias on the wrong side. A heavier hook may be a good solution. I would use a Owner Weighted Twistlock hook. Then you know the bait will be presented correctly. Frank Owner Weighted Twistlock Hook Quote
boostr Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Or you can do this^. I was thinking the same thing or just rage rig it. Quote
Incognito Posted May 5, 2014 Author Posted May 5, 2014 Thanks for the help. I'll check into those hooks. Quote
