So me and my uncle went fishing today and we got pulled over by Park Rangers. The park rangers checked to see if we had our fishing license and it turned out my uncle didn't get his yet, so the park ranger took our rods and gave him a "citation." Will me and my uncle get our rod and reel back???

Make sure your Uncle buys a license and shows up with the license on his court date. As long as he is honest, courteous, apologetic, and pays his fine, he will probably get his and your gear back. If he is a repeat offender, they may keep the gear. They could keep it either way, most states can confiscate equipment used when breaking the law. Not having a license is not the worst crime so like I said, as long as he shows it was just a mistake and is reasonable about it, they'll probably give it back.

I'd be getting mine back one way or another. Whether I got it back from the state or my uncle bought me new gear since it was 100% his fault you lost it in the first place.

In some states they can confiscate all equipment associated with the activity which was in defiance of the law. That includes rods and reels, tackle, boat, and tow vehicle. It is rarely done, but they can do it. I would be nice to these people and hope for the best. Most Fish & Game Rangers are pretty decent people just doing a thankless job. A fishing license is cheap insurance against a possible disaster.

You should of been able to keep yours if you didn't do anything wrong...but I don't know the laws of your state

I would be hot. Thats like me when i go fishing dragging along my girlfriend. No license for her but all the equipment is mine. Yes all 4 rod and reels plus enough tackle to start a small bait shop.

Danger, danger calling the ranger working anything out.  It could be misunderstood very easily.  This could lead to more severe charges.

If they do auction your gear perhaps you can bid on it and get it back.  and maybe you'll get a great deal on it!

Seriously though, in similar shoes I wouldn't be too happy with my uncle.  Did they take EVERYTHING?  That seems a bit extreme to me.  Since you HAD your license I think I would challenge that in court.  As far as your uncle goes-he made his bed...

I'm guessing that the original poster did not have a license either seeing how he is only 15.
