AbKeeLee Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 So me and my uncle went fishing today and we got pulled over by Park Rangers. The park rangers checked to see if we had our fishing license and it turned out my uncle didn't get his yet, so the park ranger took our rods and gave him a "citation." Will me and my uncle get our rod and reel back??? Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted May 4, 2014 Super User Posted May 4, 2014 Idk.... In the state of indiana they put them up For auction.... Good luck Quote
AbKeeLee Posted May 4, 2014 Author Posted May 4, 2014 i dont even know why they took mines they just said they would decide whether we get our rod back or not Quote
Super User Scott F Posted May 4, 2014 Super User Posted May 4, 2014 Make sure your Uncle buys a license and shows up with the license on his court date. As long as he is honest, courteous, apologetic, and pays his fine, he will probably get his and your gear back. If he is a repeat offender, they may keep the gear. They could keep it either way, most states can confiscate equipment used when breaking the law. Not having a license is not the worst crime so like I said, as long as he shows it was just a mistake and is reasonable about it, they'll probably give it back. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 5, 2014 Global Moderator Posted May 5, 2014 I'd be getting mine back one way or another. Whether I got it back from the state or my uncle bought me new gear since it was 100% his fault you lost it in the first place. Quote
Bladesmith, Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 In some states they can confiscate all equipment associated with the activity which was in defiance of the law. That includes rods and reels, tackle, boat, and tow vehicle. It is rarely done, but they can do it. I would be nice to these people and hope for the best. Most Fish & Game Rangers are pretty decent people just doing a thankless job. A fishing license is cheap insurance against a possible disaster. Quote
bnick Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 You should of been able to keep yours if you didn't do anything wrong...but I don't know the laws of your state Quote
Pz3 Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 I would be hot. Thats like me when i go fishing dragging along my girlfriend. No license for her but all the equipment is mine. Yes all 4 rod and reels plus enough tackle to start a small bait shop. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted May 8, 2014 Super User Posted May 8, 2014 Sounds like you were an accessory. Perhaps you can call the ranger and work something out Quote
Super User geo g Posted May 9, 2014 Super User Posted May 9, 2014 Danger, danger calling the ranger working anything out. It could be misunderstood very easily. This could lead to more severe charges. Quote
Super User Ratherbfishing Posted May 9, 2014 Super User Posted May 9, 2014 Idk.... In the state of indiana they put them up For auction.... Good luck If they do auction your gear perhaps you can bid on it and get it back. and maybe you'll get a great deal on it! Seriously though, in similar shoes I wouldn't be too happy with my uncle. Did they take EVERYTHING? That seems a bit extreme to me. Since you HAD your license I think I would challenge that in court. As far as your uncle goes-he made his bed... Quote
