So last week we had another club tournament, and me and my boater won it. I caught the second largest fish weighing in at 4.75(New PB) and he caught the biggest fish at 4.95. I caught my fish on the mettle using 50lb spiderwire. It felt great before I caught the fish, and for the rest of the tournament. I went fishing Friday after school though and it was really loud and I could feel the gears. I oiled the bearings, but I haven't greased it yet. I was just wondering if any of y'all have had this happen, and if so did it affect the performance of the reel?

How old is the reel? I have heard of some individuals on here having similar issues out of the box and they were replaced.

The first one I got was loud out of the box, but I took it back and exchanged it. I have 3 mettles that I bought at different times, but I think this one is about 8-9 months old. The last one I bought is only like 7 months old though.

I once bought a mettle and used it for cranking. I grinded that thing into the dirt and it held up, but the gears seemed to wear quickly. It was rough after a few trips doing some medium depth cranking near primary and secondary points. I caught several bass between 5-7 lbs. too. It's a cheap reel and it isn't going to stay smooth forever. A curado E5 or E6 on the other hand will stay smooth after years of cranking. You get what you pay for.

I started with all my combos with mettles, i think they are a good reel but almost the throw away variety after using them for a while i slowly replaced them with lews and revos but if im not mistaken they are very well warrantied. Take them back and tell them how old it is and be honest and i think they will take care of you, maybe just give you store credit towards another reel. They are like the walmart of fishing stuff, they stand by their products at academy.
