Just looking for thoughts on the GL-2 Spinning rod sensitivity.  I have a chance to pick one up for 120 which I think is a very fair price,  I will be using it for mostly for senkos and t-rigs.  Anyone using this and can you give me your thoughts on the sensitivity of it.

Thanks!

A lot of guys claim the G loomis rods start as a very good sensitive rod at the IMX and up.  A lot of them say the lesser priced rods are a little of a let down for what one would really expect compared to IMX, GLX, NRX.  For 120, it seems like a decent deal, but I have no idea how they perform, as I don't own a GL2.  I do however own a NRX spinning rod, it is spendy, but it is da bomb.  Most sensitive rod I have ever tried.  Are there better rods than a GL2 for around 120?  Most likely, but as I said before, never tried it.  ---- Jon.

I bought a GL2 852S last year for like $150. I felt like it was a rip off at that price. They're not "bad" rods really, but you certainly don't get your money's worth. For $120, I'd much rather have an *** or Tatula rod. I feel both are lighter and more sensitive than the GL2. I really like the actions of Loomis rods and the build quality is always good, but you're mostly just paying for the name. I even just bought one of the new IMX rods and honestly, I'd rather use an *** or Tatula rod over that one too. They're every bit as sensitive as the IMX.

Never used one so take this for what its worth... but I've heard more negative things than positive. I've handled them in store and they don't feel bad, but it sounds like there are many better options out there for the price. Even at 120, I would save up for another rod. The Fenwick Elite Tech might be a good option at that price.

Thanks guys,  already bought (didnt see the responses before hand) it and have it in hand.  Its in perfect condition and light. Ill find out how the sensitivity is later.  I did look at reviews and felt for 120 it would be a good deal but we'll see I guess.  Ill use it for the season and switch it over to a dobyns champion if I dont like it.  I love the one on my casting set up.

Thanks again

I use Gl2 BC rods .... They are plenty sensitive..

The guides are old school but they are strong

And durable... Tapers are very good..... I got mine

Used... Same as new for 60% of retail... I like mine just fine... Enjoy you're new rod and reel

I believe you will!

Don't let the other posters get you down.  I own a GL2 granted I do think they are over priced at retail but for 120 that isn't bad.  I like my GL2 won't say it's my favorite, but it has it's place in my arsenal.  It is plenty sensitive for for bottom contact.

Also to add the casting split grip/reel seats is awesome, it is my favorite thing about the rods. GL2 and GLX

I'm with lmbfisherman on this, at retail they aren't worth the money, $120 isn't bad. I wanted to like them when they came out with the redesign, then I got to check them out at Cabelas and when I picked it up I was disappointed, for $200 the rod was heavier than most rods in the $100 - $150 range and it uses old school aluminum oxide guides which are good for bass fishing but not on a rod that cost this much. The good part is you paid a decent price and the handle feels great and having comfort will let you feel more just because you won't be focused on how your hand feels. What really gets me is the full retail price is only a few dollars less than a GL3 which is a much better rod but if anything, the Loomis is well made so it should last you for a good long time.

I had a chance to use it yesterday just tossing a t-rig worm around.  Felt sensitive enough to me anyway,  I felt the bottom, felt the worm and hooked up nicely on the one bite I was able to muster up.  Im happy with the 120 purchase at this point.  I only fished for about 90 minutes but so far so good.

I use my GL2 893c as a jig and worm rod so no issues there, primarily though I've used it as my 1/2 oz spinnerbait/swim jig.

I own several older GL2s, now relegated to perform the not that glamorous tasks anymore they are mainly used for spinnerbaiting & cranking; I still keep them in the arsenal and come along with me, they are not IMX but heck, I still can use them for jigging and worming, that´s what they were used for before the IMXs were purchased. Sure, there are people that say they were not worth the 120 dollars, that there were "better" rods for that price, well I had those so called better rods for that money and none of them are with me anymore, I like my GL2s.
