kbkindle Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 I see everyone is talking about s.k. ragetail baits. the rage monkeys and roosters etc. i have not fished any yet. In your opinion what would be the best rage tail for fishing for smallmouth.Up here in north indiana. thanks guys Quote
MMan16 Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 I had good success with smallies on the rage craw and lobster. Weightless, jig trailer, shakey head, you can't go wrong. Rage tails are great baits. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted March 11, 2011 Super User Posted March 11, 2011 Baby Craw, naked. 1/0 bait hook, 1/8 oz weight, unpegged. 8-) Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted March 11, 2011 Super User Posted March 11, 2011 The Craw and Baby craw have been superb smallie baits for me. Quote
Super User webertime Posted March 11, 2011 Super User Posted March 11, 2011 Rivers/Creeks, I love Roadwarrior's set up. Topwater where the weeds/reeds/pads are fairly tightly packed together, Rage Shad. It's so loud that the "Blurp Blurp, drag over pads, Blurp..." is very effective. I sparser weeds or clear water I use the Rage Toad. The Smoking Rooster landed my biggest Smallies of the year when C-Rigged in 14-28 FOW (5.09, 4.88, 4.75). Make sure you pinch of then tiny piece of plastic from the end of the tail after you separate the tail, I left it on a couple and DID have more hits but the whole "rage tail" would often get torn off, but I never had tail issues with that little piece removed. I really like them! Quote
WanderLust Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 Baby Craw, naked. 1/0 bait hook, 1/8 oz weight, unpegged. 8-) I have 5 packs ready to roll for this one! Quote
Fat-G Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 Baby Craw, naked. 1/0 bait hook, 1/8 oz weight, unpegged. 8-) BOOM. This rig has ALWAYS caught fish for me. It is absolutely deadly. Quote
RyneB Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 Baby Rage craw. One of my best smallie producers is a strike king bitsy bug jig with a baby rage craw trailer. Quote
bpNClgmouth Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 Baby Craw, naked. 1/0 bait hook, 1/8 oz weight, unpegged. 8-) Dont overlook this for largemouth either Quote
flippin and pitchin Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 Baby Craw, naked. 1/0 bait hook, 1/8 oz weight, unpegged. 8-) Oh yeah. Bought some, like them. Gonna lite Carolina rig these baits this year too. Quote
kbkindle Posted March 11, 2011 Author Posted March 11, 2011 thanks guys sounds like baby craw is the ticket Quote
Its a big one Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 I HOPE I DON'T SEE YOU FISH A BABY CRAW NAKED! Quote
kbkindle Posted March 13, 2011 Author Posted March 13, 2011 I HOPE I DON'T SEE YOU FISH A BABY CRAW NAKED!its not a big one, just keeper size (NO) not naked Quote
WanderLust Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 Is the rage tail toad good? It worked well for me. There are some haters on this one but honestly after watching the rigging tips & trying it... Like all other Rage baits. Its great. Quote
Super User Shane J Posted March 13, 2011 Super User Posted March 13, 2011 All the Rage Tails are at the top of their class. The only plastics I ever fish. To answer your question about a smallmouth bait choice, try drop shotting a Baby Craw, keel weighting a Smokin' Rooster, split shot rig an Eeliminator, stick a black/blue Chunk on the back of a black hair jig, or put a Falcon Craw colored Lobster on a football head, and find 'em in the chunk rock. There's a thousand different ways to get 'em with the Rage Tails. For my last couple of outings, the Pearl Craw on a white swim jig, and swimming the Rooster on a weighted swimbait hook has been hot. crankbait2009 Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 Baby Craw, naked. 1/0 bait hook, 1/8 oz weight, unpegged. 8-) what is meant by "unpegged"? Quote
hookingem Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 Pegging a weight means using a bullet weight that doesn't slide like a normal Texas rig. The screw in weights work, or you can use a toothpick, a bobber stopper, or crimp a split-shot above your bullet weight . Quote
crankbait2009 Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 so on an unpegged situation, you want the bullet weight to slide? right? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted March 13, 2011 Super User Posted March 13, 2011 Correct. When bait falls, the bait and weight disconnect creating erratic action. This also eliminates the "feel" of the weight when a bass strikes. 8-) Quote
crankbait2009 Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 awesome, thank you road warrior!!! i am one that cant get a soft plastic bite for the life of me!!! cranks on the other hand are SUPREME!!!! anyways, i will be trying this technique this year in hopes of adding another technique to my arsenal.. Super User A-Jay Posted March 14, 2011 Super User Posted March 14, 2011 I'm a fan of several baits in the Rage Tail line up. btw ~ have you seen ANY of the posts by this man ? They routinely include The Biggest Bass I could ever hope to catch, all tempted by a Rage Tail Product. A-Jay http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1299795340 Quote
