I am looking for a little help...

I want to customize my baitcasters with a custom paint job on some of the parts.

I have an Abu Garcia STX, an Abu Garcia SX, and a Quantum Smoke (on the way for delivery).

Was wondering what type of paint I should use to paint the spool, star wheel, brake knob, and handle knob caps. For my SX I want to match the metallic red that's already on it and for the Smoke I want a metallic green or blue.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Paint thickens parts, after painting probably they aren't going to fit. Anodizing is a much more viable path since it won't thicken the parts.

Yea I agree with Raul on this.... You could do

You're reel body... But for metal parts anodizing

Will be perfect.... Hawg tech does this work and

They are reasonable.... Having many colors avail.

Good luck

X2 whatever you do don't paint reel parts.

You can send in the pieces you want done for example... Drag star.. Cast control cap etc.. Spools even I think.... Basic aluminum anodizing

In some really cool colors...www.hawgtech.com

They are supernice people and do really good work.. They sell carbon handles and abec7 bearings....

If you don't paint the frame of the reel you really have two options ....

1. Purchase "new" trim pieces/accent parts from Hedgehog Studios in Japan. Shipping is like $13 and the parts are stellar and look sick plus you can keep your original parts should you want to change the reel back for whatever reason. They have parts for ABU reels but I am not sure about your smoke. I have purchased from them and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Received everything in about 5 days

2. Have your parts anodized by the folks at Hawgtech. The only problem is the parts HAVE TO BE ALUMINUM. If not and they are plastic or something else, the anodizing bath will melt them. I am not and ABU/Quantum guy so I can't tell you about your specific reels. They are great guys and extremely helpful.

Pricing is going to depend on quantity and also size of part. Drag stars are more and pats like cast control caps, retainers, frame screws, reel knob end caps, etc... are on the cheaper side.

If painting then preperation is the key so it won't peel. I been using the laqure model spray cans on some lures then I clear laqure them.
