Caught this LM bass about ten feet from shore with a jig pitched around a fallen tree. Thought it was a musky from how much it was fighting. It around 22-23" sorry dont have a scale. Wish I did. Once I saw the head come up I went holy $#!# its a bass. Then my knees started quaking. Barely hooked. Chest pounding. Haha. Definitely my biggest bass ever. So happy.

Ps sorry for layin this one on the ground. Just was so befuddled and overwhelmed.post-45289-0-01307800-1399060035_thumb.jpost-45289-0-95050600-1399060077_thumb.j

Now what did we learn today? Go out and get that scale !! Good job dude. I caught my PB and didn't have a scale at the time. I bought one afterwards but still haven't caught a bass as large :(

Nice, congrats just ten feet from shore that's what I'm talking about. Listen up shore fisherman. Trust me there are bigger ones out there still. Bruce424 stay fishing there. Let this hog motivate you. That's an awesome bass no doubt about that. These bigger gals hang out together.

Great fish! Congrats!

I read an independent online test review series a while back and the most accurate digital scale was a Rapala, this one...

https://m.basspro.com/Rapala-Mini-50-lb-Digital-Scale/product/10203288/

They were tested against known weights if various sizes. That one and the bass pro one were actually the most consistent.

Congrats again on the oinker!

Yep thanks guys. Definitely getting a scale. But if you had to guess the weight for that bass what do you think it would be... 5lbs?? Maybe 6?? She really Had a full belly.

Nice fish!

It's a good thing you didn't have a scale! By the time you're telling that story when you're 60 years old, that fish will be a twelve pounder!

If you don't have a scale, get the length and girth and you can estimate pretty closely. You can get a huge variance in the weight of a fish in that length range depending on girth. Last year my two biggest fish were 22" and 24.5". The 24.5" was only 14" and weighed 7.51. The 22" fish was very fat at 17" around and weighed 7.76. Normally a 22" fish is going to be around 6 pounds though and I wouldn't bat an eye if you showed me that picture and said it was 6 pounds. No matter what she weighed it's a great fish though :)

Great bass! I love that feeling when you barely hook the big ones.
