Just picked one up and sitting here on my couch playing with it. Super buttery smooth right out of the box.  Playing around with the drag is equally smooth.  If you are on the fence about one I say dont be,  go get it.  Cant wait to break it in tomorrow.

I totally agree!  I bought one two months ago and love it!  Long distance casts, smooth drag and light as a feather.  If someone had told me a year ago I was going to spend $230 on a spinning reel I would have told them they were crazy.  Now?  Money well spent...

Most I have ever spent on a spinning reel but I had to have it.  After playing with my Chronarch Ci4+ the past month I had to have the same type of spinning reel.  No rod yet, going to throw it on an old crappy one for a few weeks until I can save up for a good one.

I've got one of these myself, my wife got it for me as an anniversary present.  At first I was kind of iffy about it since I probably wouldn't have bought myself something that nice.  But it is really dang nice.  Very light and super smooth.

**edit:  Doh, just saw this.  I thought you were talking about the chronarch ci4+...

I put mine on a Loomis GLX rod.  I get goosebumps just thinking about how much fun it is to fish with... :respect-059:

Lighter weight, but not as smooth as the FH

So you would get an FH over a Ci4? Did you mean FJ?

Nothing against the OP, but how can you sit on the couch and say something is great. You haven't even casted a lure or much less caught a fish on it. I am glad you like it, but you might want to actually use it before you sing its praises.

I bought the Ci4 because I wanted a lighter reel for my NRX 852. The FH was bought a few years earlier and paired with a GLX 852 which is about an ounce heavier than the NRX. I guess if I were to purchase another Stradic my decision would depend on what rod I would pair with it. Light weight vs. smoothness, the FH just has a more solid feel to me.

Do you have any FJ's? Do you know how it compares to those?

I do agree.

I'm not primarily a bass fisherman, but I still do it nearly every afternoon after I'm done with saltwater, safe to say I've caught a bass or 2.  I did spend 50 years in Michigan bass being my prime target.  I just can't understand this obsession with lightness, I'd always opt for what I thought was the smoothest reel.  I've got reels that are 14 and 16 oz that are every bit as smooth and easy to crank as my smaller bass reels, a lighter rotor is easier to crank.............huh?

I have one of the original C14 Stradics and it has been a great shakyhead reel for me. Couple years of use so far and zero issues so far.

Believe it or not,  I also agree, I was just excited.  I did get it out for a bit yesterday,  well my 8yr old did.  He hooked into a chain pickerel the whole process for him was very simple

from messing with the drag to reeling it in.  Everything seemed very smooth but Ill know more today when I go out alone provided the wind isn't nuts.

I do not own a FJ. Most people I talk to prefer the older FH.

Get your hands on an fj, you'll sell that fh in a heartbeat...

I'd have to fish with it first. Just from handling a FJ at the store, I prefer the FH

I've used the FH, FI, FJ, MgFB, CI4, and CI4+. The two best are the FJ and CI4+ by a long shot. The FJ is very robust. It feels smooth and powerful. The CI4+ is smooth and feels plenty solid, but the light weight and carbon do give it a different feel. Both are great reels.

I haven't used as many reels as Ty or many of the members on this board. I will say the fj is a beast. It almost makes reeling the fish in too easy. Atleast for the 2-5 pounders I generally catch.

I bought a ci4+ and returned it. I think it had a problem something was rubbing on the rotor. I bought another brand that will remain nameless and bunch of jerkbaits and I'm happy.

So what so you think is better the Ci4+ or the FJ?

Could not tell ya; like I said there was a rubbing on the rotor of the ci4. Never even casted it. Spent a week spinning it around to determine if I was crazy and came to the conclusion I wasn't going to spend $220 to wonder that.

Same thing happened to me. Bought a Stradic ci4+ 4000, took it home, messed around with it and it seemed like something was rubbing on the rotor. Took it back, tried all the remaining 4000's at the store and experienced the same thing. Couldn't stomach spending $200+ on something that wasn't 100% smooth.
