Super User bigbill Posted May 2, 2014 Super User Posted May 2, 2014 The misses was walking our dog at a lake that's stocked with trout. She was on the trail near the water when she heard a very loud body slam hit the water. She screamed. I told her it's a big bass feeding on trout in the shallows near the shoreline. She missed seeing the fish but seen the ripples in the water right after. I hear these noises at another place were I fish around 9pm just as its getting dark. I guess it's pretty common at night to hear the bass breech? Quote

Mccallister25 Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 The ponds I fish, when the water gets warm, has some pretty decently sized grass carp in them that feed right on the edge of the bank and spook very easy. Could be carp. Quote

Super User Oregon Native Posted May 2, 2014 Super User Posted May 2, 2014 I remember once many years ago camping in Oregon on a lake and we got up early to hit the water and started hearing all this comotion. Well we sneaked down to the waters edge with flash lights and there were hundreds of fish by the bank. Mostly trout....there were tons of bugs in the water next to the bank that the wind had blown up shallow threw the night. The little fish were eating the bugs and bigger fish were chasing the smaller fish. Was cool seeing the ol food chain working. Quote
skeeter1980 Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Being that i'm Italian, raised up in NY,and had uncles in the Mob.I'm guessing it was the mafia, getting rid of a body.lol Quote

Could be carp. There are some ponds around me that have some bruiser sized grass Carp up to 30+ lbs. They'll jump clear out of the water, and a 20 lb carp hitting the surface will definitely get your attention. Quote
Pz3 Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Definitly was the government. Some man jumped out of a black stealth helicopter to see what you were up to. Quote

Super User Choporoz Posted May 5, 2014 Super User Posted May 5, 2014 My wife and I tried to hunt down a MONSTER bass in a large a cove at dusk one evening.... until well after dark....when the dang beaver slapped (a second time) about 15 feet away and I nearly fell out of the boat. We so wanted to believe we were going to land a ten pound bass that night....lol Quote
