BassBossMN Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Im in the market for a new frog rod and it got me wondering, what's your best/favorite frog rod you've ever owned? Quote
robster80 Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 i just picked up a cabelas tournament zx frog rod. havent used a frog with it yet but love the feel of the rod and i think itll perform great. Quote
Lucky Craft Man Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 I purchased a G Loomis NRX 916 UBR and tested it out with some frogs this Fall. That rod has a ton of potential (and versatility). I will give it a true work out this Summer in slop and pad fields, but it definitely will have the power to hoist fish out of heavy slop. Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted May 2, 2014 Super User Posted May 2, 2014 ALX 7'4" Dragger custom with full handle and spiral wrapped mid-micro SiC guides. It's awesome for small swimbaits and c-rigs as well. Quote
Super User tcbass Posted May 2, 2014 Super User Posted May 2, 2014 i just picked up a cabelas tournament zx frog rod. havent used a frog with it yet but love the feel of the rod and i think itll perform great. I got the same one. Am debating if it's too heavy for slop fishing here. I normally has a medium or medium heavy and haven't had a problem yet. Was considering exchanging it for a MH. Quote
robster80 Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 i actually took it out and threw buzzbait on it. really like the action. id keep it man Quote
OntarioFishingGuy Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 I like my Mojo Bass 7 foot hvy/fast. I can walk a frog easily, and i can skip a frog way back under trees and docks. Great backbone too. Great rod for 110$. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted May 2, 2014 Super User Posted May 2, 2014 Dobyns 735c Dobyns 736c 5 power for the not so thick, 6 power when it gets nasty. 1 Quote
Blues19 Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 I used an older Berkley Lightning Rod last year. It was a 6'6" MH. I caught a BUNCH of fish on that reel. I bought a 7' MH Mojo Bass this year. It is lighter and I think it will be a darn good rod for frogs. Quote
buzzfrog Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 custom rod 7'3 MH-H XF tip, love it can skip frogs under anything and since I am addicted to throwing em, I also have a *** 7'3 MHXF with a daiwa tat type R. cant wait to try that combo out Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted May 2, 2014 Super User Posted May 2, 2014 Dobyns 735c Dobyns 736c 5 power for the not so thick, 6 power when it gets nasty. Same. Love these for frog rods. 1 Quote
War Eagle 44 Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Powell Max 735. Mag Heavy power so you never have to worry if the fish is coming to the boat, absolutely love mine. Quote
Super User aavery2 Posted May 2, 2014 Super User Posted May 2, 2014 I use the Falcon Cara Jason Christie signature model, fits the way I fish frogs very well. Quote
Jay Ell Gee Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 I just use a Powell Diesel 734. 7'2 MH/XF. It does the job well for around 60 bucks, which is great, because a frog is on it 24/7. Quote
Alpha Male Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 I like the pinnacle perfecta 7'3" MH-F rod. 3/8 - 1 1/4oz weights Quote
Grantman83 Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Dobyns 735c Dobyns 736c 5 power for the not so thick, 6 power when it gets nasty. Or my new DX 746..yeeee haw Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted May 2, 2014 Super User Posted May 2, 2014 I pretty much have hated every rod I ever owned for frogging that the mfg. labeled as a "Frog" rod. My favorites have been just good old fashioned 7' MH/F rods, for GP frog work, and then using a flipping stick for dragging them across mats. 1 Quote
frogflogger Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 I own a half dozen frog rods from loomis to falcon - my day to day favorite is the daiwa light and tough frog rod - not sure they're still on the market. Fished frogs 250-300 days a year for 5 yrs. the Daiwa was the all around best for me. Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted May 2, 2014 Super User Posted May 2, 2014 My current frogging rod that I really enjoy is a Dobyns Champion 736C. Quote
mjseverson24 Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 7'6" H/F abu Vendetta... strong, light(ish), and affordable... Mitch Quote
buzzfrog Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 i cant see casting a frog on a 7'6 up rod and I am 6'2 lol , but I hardly have vegetation, I have really never had to drag a frog, always walk or spit Quote
Super User Teal Posted May 2, 2014 Super User Posted May 2, 2014 Powell Endurance 725. Its a freakin broom stick with a super soft tip. I used it last week for some 3/4 and 1oz wake baits and it did fine with that too! , Quote
