Larry C. Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Well this was a surprise. I could see him in the water and didn't look as big as he was when I pulled out this big'un. I didn't have a scale with me but it was definitely more than my previous PB which was 5. This felt like 10 but can't be sure. 2 Quote

SnazzySenko Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Nice peacock! I'm gonna guess that it's around 5-6 lbs 1 Quote
Pz3 Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Jelous. No PB in central florida. nice fish though! 1 Quote
Jacob044 Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 This formula is surprisingly close---> Measure length times length times girth divided by 1200. Example 18" fish and girth of 16" ----> So, 18 x18 x16 / 1200= 4.3lb. 1 Quote

Super User BassinLou Posted May 1, 2014 Super User Posted May 1, 2014 Very nice pea Larry!! It's not quite the 10lbr you may have wanted but you may have just quite beat your PB. As the heat of S. FL increases you will start seeing alot more peacock activity. What were using to catch that beauty? 1 Quote

I took advantage that I could see about 10' down and kept throwing everything until I saw interest. It was a wonderful learning experience to see what actions I did would cause a reaction in the fish. Quote
Larry C. Posted May 1, 2014 Author Posted May 1, 2014 Thanks guys. I just keep reading here and learning. You all have helped me become a better bass fisherman. Quote

Going by this formula and pictures I took of my buddy holding the fish we estimated the catch to be anywhere between 7.88 and 9.57. So does 8.72 sound fair??? Quote
Super User Nitrofreak Posted May 1, 2014 Super User Posted May 1, 2014 Sound fair ? sure !! but I still would not count it as such for the simple reason that you just can't possibly be sure , look at it this way , you have a new scale ordered , let that one go and go catch another one to hang on that bad boy , who knows , you guys have some great fishing down there , you might just hang a 12 lb'er !!!! WWWWWOOOOOOOHHHHHHHOOOOO !!! Regardless , it was a great moment with a great fish and a great memory to have forever !! 1 Quote

As far as weight? I really can't tell you. In the future when you land another beast, you will have a better reference with the scale. 1 Quote
Super User MCS Posted May 2, 2014 Super User Posted May 2, 2014 http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/fishboat/fish/recreational/catchrelease/bass_length_weight.phtml I use this Quote
SnazzySenko Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/fishboat/fish/recreational/catchrelease/bass_length_weight.phtml I use this This wouldn't work for peacock. Peacock are built way different that largemouth. They have a bigger girth but less length. 1 Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted May 2, 2014 Super User Posted May 2, 2014 Great catch - I've never seen one - 'course I've only fished in New England... Quote

Super User jbsoonerfan Posted May 2, 2014 Super User Posted May 2, 2014 The one thing I know is, the fish always weighs more when I don't have a set of scales. 2 Quote
