ok fellow bass resource members, im 14 and have a very strong passion for fishing. i found a neighbor hood pond a couple years ago and ive fished it with my neighbor since we found it and have caught some huge bass in it. anyway here recently this mad about 40 years old has been coming outside telling us to leave. my parents and i paid them a visit and tried to have a civil convorsation with the man and his wife but his wife was yelling and it was like talking to a street light post. the lake is state waters so my neighbor and i put our kayaks in and started fishing again he comes out saying he has talked to the sheriff about us and we leave so no more drama gets started. my neighbors dad who just retired from the police dept. asked the sherrif and nobady had talked to him about that. then the deputy said as long as we have permission we CAN fish there. and we have permission from 3 people. so guys and gals should i go fish there again? what are your thoughts on this?

So who owns the lake? Is there a home owners association involved? It sounds like your parents need to talk directly to the sheriff himself and whoever actually owns the property.

The STATE owns the lake? Well in that case, FISH ON :)

But just to be safe, make sure you don't walk through the property of the angry yelling people on your way to and from it.

Sounds like if u stay off there property you'll be fine. There's a nice state owned pond by me with limited shore access and the best spots being the backyards of the four homes on the pond. My buddies family owned all four houses and we were allowed to fish in his and his grandparents yards. His family had been trying to sell his grandparents house but we were still allowed to fish it. We didn't realize that it had sold a week before and we were greeted by a very grumpy older gentlemen giving us an earful. So we moved over 30 feet to my buddies.

Good luck. Be safe, some people are nuts.

If it's a state owned pond and as long as you have permission to access it you're good. If he threatens to call the po po on you again invite him to. Don't be cocky about it, but I think a visit from the cops will do him good. Since he doesn't want to listen to you or your parents, so for him to find out from the cops that you aren't doing anything wrong would be the best.

Maybe your parents should visit the local police and let them know what is going on. They (the police) may just pay this grumpy neighbor a visit and straighten him out. You need to get it on record with the police in any case....just in case the situation escalates. JMO!

In Michigan there is a law against anyone "harassing" fisherman. Your state may have one also. The angry man and wife could possibly charged with harassment. Have your parents look into it, call your local fish and game dept.

Contact the police and speak directly with them is very good advice.  Take down the name of the officer you talk with so that you can reference it if there is a problem where the police are called.  Also, make sure you do everything in your power not to escalate the situation.  Keep your cool and make the authorities fight your battle.  If he starts yelling I would contact the police and have them come out and talk with him.  The worst thing you can do is set off some unstable person.  That is how people get hurt.

Sorry to hear you're having a tough time trying to enjoy something that you love.

This is a tough situation and one that unfortunately may not be resolved without a visit by the local law enforcement officials to this couples residence.

If you have a cell phone, be sure to bring it with you when you go fishing there.  If & when you are approached by these people call "911".  Explain to them that you are a 14 year old boy and you are being Harassed and Threatened by these adults while you're legally fishing and you don't feel safe.   Be sure to call Every time this situation occurs. Your local authorities will sort this out appropriately soon enough and you'll be able to get back to what you enjoy.  You have that right.

Good Luck
