Super User tcbass Posted April 29, 2014 Super User Posted April 29, 2014 What is the most popular bass boat? Triton, Ranger, Skeeter, Nitro, other? And why is it so popular? And is there a difference in what is the most popular bass boat for tournament fisherman and your average fisherman? Quote
Super User Marty Posted April 29, 2014 Super User Posted April 29, 2014 To the best of my knowledge, the Tracker line has been the top seller for a long time. I presume price or perceived "bang for the buck" is a big part of it. Maybe the fact that everyone gets BPS catalogs is part of it as well. Quote

BassnChris Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 You will get a lot responses I imagine........'popular' can be misleading..........not sure anyone compiles that information for public consumption. interesting though. Quote
Koofy Smacker Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Isn't that an aluminum boat? "bass boat" does not mean fiberglass Quote
Super User tcbass Posted April 30, 2014 Author Super User Posted April 30, 2014 "bass boat" does not mean fiberglass I should have specified, "What is the most popular fiberglass bass boat?" Quote

Amarley Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 If I had to guess, the highest in sales volume would most likely belong to Nitro. They give the most value. But, if every fisherman in America was polled and asked what they would like to have, Ranger would probably win. That's an educated/opinionated guess. 2 Quote

So what does Ranger have that the Nitro doesn't? Is the Ranger the highest optioned boat? I thought the Triton looked expensive too. Quote
Amarley Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Basically like a nice Ford Expedition compared to a Cadillac Escalade. Both are very nice, just a few more bells and whistles on the Ranger. I'll let someone who owns a ranger expand on the differences. Quote
RighteousFishing WI Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Amarley is pretty much right imo. A lot of the boats you well see on a certain lake/river though can depend on what part of the country you are in. Quote

They also have a reputation of being slow, and expensive. Triton has a great reputation. They also have a reputation of chine walking. Nitro has a decent reputation. Doesn't mean they're a bad boat. They have had issues in the past which seem to have been resolved. BUT they have a reputation of being a great value compared to other brands. Most people are biased. Everybody thinks their boat is the best. If you're in the market to buy a boat, research all of them. Some may be more appealing than others. Some may suit your specific needs better than others. 3 Quote

Ranger may have a reputation of being slow, but Ill tell ya one thing. A Z520 was only the second high end boat I have ridden in (next to a 2007 Champion 190) and it felt everything but slow. 70-75mph is just fine by me Quote

What's considered the Bentley of fiberglass bass boats? Quote
Super User slonezp Posted April 30, 2014 Super User Posted April 30, 2014 What's considered the Bentley of fiberglass bass boats? Depends. Could be Ranger. Some guys are into "go fast" boats and I believe Allison takes the cake on that one Quote
Koofy Smacker Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 What's considered the Bentley of fiberglass bass boats? Common thought would be Ranger. That being said, I would rather take a BassCat, Phoenix or Legend over the Rangers anyday. I prefer the lay out, performance, and so far the reliability reviews on them. Plus it stands out more than just "one of the 50 rangers" in the parking lot Quote

Koofy Smacker Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 What's the difference in lay out and performance? Why are there better reviews on the other boats, does the Ranger have reliability issues? Ranger reliability has a great record. Great company to deal with all around. The smaller companies that I had mentioned seem to pay a little more attention to the location on very small things such as where ruler slots are, or if things are adjustable and how some things can be customized within the boats. If I were to drop the money on one it would be with one of those. Performance wise they do tend to be a little faster which (Id have to look up exact numbers) but Im pretty sure they are a bit better on gas. On the other hand, Rangers are hands down some of the safest boats on the market due to how they inject foam in every possible section of them. Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted May 1, 2014 Super User Posted May 1, 2014 Its really personal preference, I'd like to get one of the fast 3. Allison, Bullet or Stroker. I think I like those boats because they aren't the most popular/common boat on the water. 1 Quote

Super User slonezp Posted May 1, 2014 Super User Posted May 1, 2014 I know the guy in my club runs the high 70's but thinks he should be able to get more out of it. He was experimenting with props last year. We have a guy with a bullet and a 300 Merc on the back that goes 100+ Quote
Basseditor Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 I've owned bass boats for 30 some years. When I bought my current boat, I drove nearly every fiberglass bass boat made. And as a tournament angler, I fished out of nearly every boat. But I was looking for some things that helped me narrow it down. I won't go into detail because my needs we're specific. I also figured it would be my last purchase, but the model I would buy now, if I bought another wasn't available 5 years ago. Everyone develops an affinity for a brand and it's the only brand they'll buy. I'm more open minded. But I love my Phoenix. Quote

200racing Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Hard to judge. The pros are are choosing the best sponsor or one that qualifies them for contegency money. What brands Area dealers carry are going to have a great deal of impact on what you see. I live 20 minutes from bass pro and can't throw a rock without hitting a tracker. Nitro 6 and 7 are very common. Beyond that it is pretty even. I guess the only number that really answers this is units sold per year. Quote
