I'm going to start catfishing during the day, do I basically take the same approach I would do at night? Tie on some weight, set the hook about a foot 1/2 up and throw on some livers/leach?

I'm fishing in the Susquehanna, by the way.

Hello and Welcome to BR ~

I'm sure you'll hear from a few of the seasoned catfish fisherman here, in the mean time, there's a lot of cat fishing info in the link below.

I'm a rook to catfishing, for all intent & purpose; so when you say fresh cut bait are you saying like chicken livers?

I think he means cut up a bluegill and use chunks of it as bait. At least that's my definition of "cut bait". And it does work great.

Fresh cut bait means freshly cut up baitfish. That would be my suggestion as well, especially if you want to target bigger catfish. I prefer shad and carp but sunfish will work in a pinch. If there's any members of the herring family in the water you're fishing they're very good options as well. If you're fishing from shore you basically rig up a Carolina rig with a shorter leader and cast it to where you want. If there's no current, the wind isn't bad, and you aren't fishing too deep or in a snaggy area then I actually prefer to fish without any weight at all. That's how I caught my PB flathead a couple years ago with a big chunk of fresh cut carp.

Catfish are not my specialty, but I fish for them the same way no matter the time of day, and have had good results.

We would be fishing for bass at a drop off from shore. As it got darker the catfish come up the drop off closer to shore. They hit our panther Martin spinfly yellow blade with the black dots with bass scent on it besides our nightcrawlers.

Appreciated ya'll.

It just got done pouring here and I'm going to head out tonight and see what I can get.

I find channels stick tighter to cover during the day. They roam searching for food more actively at night. In the absence of thick.cover I look for deep holes and tight against bridges.

Chicken livers left in the sun to ripen for a day. Then fish with them.

Bluebasser 86. Hush puppies???

Not a chance. Provided she hasn't been caught again she's still in the river eating her body weight in asian carp and making baby flatheads. I caught her, a bunch of 8-15 range blues and channels, and another 50+ pound blue the same day. I had a 50lb digital scale in the boat and when I tried to weigh the flathead and the big blue all it would do is shut off before I even got their tails off the ground. I have a 100lb spring scale now but haven't caught anything close to big enough to need it.
