NMUbassin Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Does anybody have any hands on experience with these? I'm debating on what rod I should purchase for my new dropshot setup. I like the design of the Tatula handle, but don't know much about it after that. Doesn't seem to be many reviews online. Was debating between Tatula and Crucial. Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted April 29, 2014 Super User Posted April 29, 2014 I have the 7MF and I like it a lot. It fishes a little more powerfully than I would probably prefer and I'd get a ML if I did it again, but it's a fantastic rod. I had a Crucial but sold it a while back. I prefer the Tatula over the Crucial for sure. It's one of the better rods I have used at that price point, if not the best. I have mine paired with a Stradic CI4+ 2500, it balances right in the middle of the foregrip, about even with the drag knob on the reel. Quote
21farms Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 i just bought the 6'9" dropshot model as a gift for my fishing partner and got to fish with it. first of all, it is light and balances wonderfully with a 9.9-ounce reel mounted. the dropshot model has a solid tip...it is very unusual and almost impossibly thin. it fishes unlike any other rod i've ever tried...kind of hard to explain but it is sensitive and my fishing partner dropshotted up over a dozen fish with it our first time out with it. he's thrilled and says he's able to feel subtle pressure bites he wasn't able to before. two little details about the rod bugs me though: 1) the trim rings around the foam handle are an orangey-gold color while the threads around the winding check and the guides are a greenish-gold, and 2) even with a daiwa reel mounted, the reel seat doesn't close all the way down...there's a 1/8-inch gap left. otherwise, the handle is very comfortable. i would easily consider this a "poor man's steez". NMUbassin Posted April 29, 2014 Author Posted April 29, 2014 Oh God, I can see me breaking off the tip already... Haha Quote
21farms Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Oh God, I can see me breaking off the tip already... Haha the 7'1" ML model is also considered a dropshot rod and that one has a regular tip. Quote
basspurifier Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 I have a 7ft med with a daiwa lexa spinning reel and the reel seat on my rod closed all the way (perfect combo balance and aesthetics wise). I guess each rod build is different but I think it is the best rod for the price. I had a *** 13 and sold it for the tatula. *** is a nice rod but the tatula seemed to be built better with better components. I got mines for $105 shipped on fleabay. Quote
