So I was throwing a 1/2 oz Red Eye Shad on a spinning rod at a place I had never fished before. I had made about half a dozen casts then all of a sudden BOOM! My drag starts roaring like I never heard before on that reel. I never set a hook or anything and my line was off. Turns out I must of ran into a carp and when it took off it hooked it self I guess. It wasn't all that big for a carp maybe 10-12# or so but giant for a bass in my neck of the woods. It was fairly exciting while my drag was going not knowing what it was.

Did that two days in a row. 15lb carp and then a 6-7lb carp. Once on a shakey head the next on a red eye shad. I knew it wasnt a bass after the first 2 seconds. Kind of disappointing.

As bad as it may sound, iv sorta always wanted to foul hook a carp just so I could play tug of war with it for a while. No bass, but it would still be exciting.

I had a 30" picketed attack my topwater popper and he gave me the second best fight of my life.

The best fight of my life was a feisty 6#1oz bass. She toured the place with my popper in her mouth. She never surfaced till I pulled her up on the shore. Number one best fight.

The 10# large mouth was too close to shore and too big to put up a fight it felt like a moving bucket of water. I played her the best I could. I never seen a freshwater bass this big never.

My neighbor pulled up as I landed her and said holy cow

Even my fishing buddy says it's the biggest bass he has ever seen

I told no one I seen bigger nor lost bigger bass.

Awesome carp.

Felt head shakes when I hooked up with this one and thought it was a bass until i saw it. Strike king KVD 1.5 was the bait of choice and on a medium moderate Avid it was an awesome fight

It is so much fun. Sometimes they will jump almost completely out of the water kind of like a dolphin when they make a long run. Closest thing to saltwater fishing IMO.

its close but hooking up with a big american shad in the river during the spring is awesome. They're not called the poor mans tarpon for nothing

I foul hooked a 6lb and 9.5 lb carp 3 weeks ago. The next day I went to the same spot, where they were fanning their tails, and hooked into a couple between 4 and 6 lbs the right way (in the mouth). The pond I was fishing holds them up to 30+ lbs. I was using 8lb flouro w/a MF rod lol, It's definitely fun!!

Wow, that must have been a fight of a lifetime! Great job getting it in.

It was pretty intense. I spotted him coming up to the top of the water about 30ft from the boat he'd come up and then nose dive sticking his tail fin up out of the water then go straight down. Done that two or the times so I threw in a giant trouble hook and next time he come up I casted over his back ran it to him and gave as big yank set the hook and it was on!!! Was tough to get in the boat he wouldn't fit in net very well and my uncle couldn't get him in by himself. Took a couple pics and set him free. Swam off in good health. Seen him as week later in same area doing the exact same thing? Only carp I've ever seen do that.

We snag big buffalos all the time during the winter jigging for wipers. It's always a great fight and they'll even jump and tailwalk at times. Hook a 30 pounder in the tail and you're in for a ride.

I use to snag them all the time when I was a kid like 10-12 years old. Intentionally I should add. I guess thinking about it now I was making drop shots with treble hooks and heavy sinkers to snag carp. I cast over them reel it up close to there side and let it rip. Most of the time you just got air and they take off with a giant wake. Sometimes you would just get back a giant scale and even rarer I would actually get a hook in them. Now a days with braided line casting gears and supper sharp hooks I bet I could get them almost every time.

Sounds like a fun day actually.... There is tons of 20-30# carp and I know where there is some d**n near 6' long

Me and my dad were fishing lake erie and he was throwing crankbaits over some humps and he hooked a fish and fought it for 2.5hrs after he got it in, it was a carp we estimated around 100lbs it was about 5 feet long and had eyeballs about the size of a small coffee can. He hooked it in the dorsal fin..

If I'm fishing for carp (exceedingly rare these days) and I catch a big one, I'm content but if I'm fishing for muskie and a carp foul hooks itself, I'm decidedly less thrilled.  But hey, they do pull well enough.
