MikeinFresno Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Im going there in a couple of weeks. Never been there to fish. So, what bait/lure to use? Ive been told live minnows are hard to beat. What about crawdads? Also what artificials? Senko, jig, crank, drop shot, etc?? What colors? Quote

Super User WRB Posted May 3, 2014 Super User Posted May 3, 2014 Hire a good guide for a day well worth the investment. Clear is ON in May. Bassmaster just named Clear lake #2 bass lake in the world, that would make the # 1 LMB lake as #1.is a Smallie fishery. Hitch color 68 ROF 12 is excellent at Clear lake, red craw deep divers, purple-green-brown jigs and Neko rigged 7" Senko's should put in good fish. Good luck. Tom Quote
Cryoglobin Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 I don't fish Clear Lake a lot, but I have been there 10 or 12 times. Had success last year with a green pumpkin 1/2 ounce chatterbait with a super fluke trailer, similar results with a RI beaver trailer. Also, I watched my buddy last year do pretty well with mattlures bluegill swimbaits. The phantom hitch mentioned above is a good option as well. But the dudes on the ground there should be able to give you solid intel as to what's working now. Quote
stratos4me Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 I'm at the lake now and have been fishing it regularly for the last month. Right now the frog bite is just getting started, but there is not a lot of emergent grass yet. I've been catching 90% of my fish on creature baits and senkos in 1-15 feet. Greens and purples are popular here. There are still some spawners but don't expect to do much sight fishing in the off color water. Good Luck! Quote
