I picked up my new Ride 115x and took it for a spin on a nearby lake.  It was cold (48 degrees) and a little windy so there was a constant chop on the water.  The results speak for themselves ... one in the 2lb class and the other I weighed in at 4.8lbs (funky eye).

Some initial observations about the Ride 115x

1 - It is extremely stable.  With the chop and wind I wasn't sure what to expect.  Within moments of paddling away I was extremely comfortable.  So comfortable in fact that I was able to focus on fishing and not falling out.   I bought the raised seat so this was a bit of a concern for me.

2 - It is not a bullet in the water but it definitely gets me around.  I was able to paddle at a decent speed to get to my spots.

3 - Adjustable seat is a big bonus! - I didn't realize you can adjust the seat while within the boat.  I started off too far back and dragged the boat around.  Once I found "center" I was cruising around like a champ!

4 - Fishfinder console - There was another post out there about the fishfinder console and I thought I would address it.  #1 - I can see how one can say it is too far away.  Even at the most forward position I would have some problems reaching it if I mounted it on top like people seem to show on the videos.  However mounting it with a ram mount right off the ball and it will be right in front of me.  Even mounting it in the lower portion would be in relatively close position.  Both minor concessions I am willing to give.

5 - Stable even side saddle.  When I went to leave I side saddled the kayak to get out and it held my big butt up.  Felt like i was getting off of a comfortable couch.

6 - Extremely comfortable - I purchased the raised seat for comfort.  The adjustable back and seat are amazing.  The only thing which pulled me off the water was the fact that I couldn't feel my hands anymore.

Only one trip and you can already tell I am smitten with this Yak!  Now it's time for the accessories.  LOL

Nice yak Felix. I bought one a couple of years ago in the sand color with the standard seat and its plenty comfortable,i spent nine hours in it on one outing last spring and i am 53. I looked on you tube and got some good ideas for making an anchor trolly and a milk crate dolly that comes apart so you can put it in the back of your yak.I may invest in that elevated seat that came with yours,it looks nice.

Good to hear your 1st trip was good.  I've only been out on my Lure once to fish, and my 128T once in the ocean behind my house with my daughter (she drove the Lure) for a little night time spin.

When I get out there again to fish, I'll hopefully catch a couple and learn how to post pictures.

Congrats and thanks! Your posts helped me with my decision on a kayak

This is me on my first day, I felt right at home in the kayak. I only caught a few dinks that day but had a great time.

I didn't stand in mine yet.  The water was too d**n cold and I didn't want to get soaked.  LOL

That color is SICK

Sure is ... I said those exact words when I saw it in the store waiting for me to take it home.  LOL

I really like the ride 115x, it's on my short list of yaks to try out. Yes that color is totally sick.

Heya Felix, First of all congrats on your new kayak, I just picked up a pair of the 115x models for me and my wife. I live about an hour of Albany ( western mass ) and Ive also got to give ya props on the maiden voyage with the crazy weather we have had lately. Yaknow 65-68 degrees and sunny on Friday and 25 degrees and raining on Saturday!!!  As I was reading your review on your kayak with the high seat I did have a question for ya. What size paddle are you using for that? Im thinking about the 240 and was wondering if thats what you might be using? Im a large guy myself and was really glad to hear you speak of the stability of this thing.

Great review man.   Lee

I have had my Ride 115X out of few times now and really like it and the elevated seat like you got. Very comfortable.

I have also noticed that many of the standard cheaper round bottomed yaks I see on the lake the same days I am out are affected by the wind much more than I am.

I did however choose to move my FF to the rail closer to me for access and like it there.

I also put a set of wires on the battery to lead out the hold where the stock mount for the FF was so that I don't have to remove the console/battery/transducer assembly to charge the battery.

I also added a homebrew anchor trolley system on my 115 for use with the anchor and I really like it too. I can place the anchor point from the front to the rear of the boat with it.

Anytime you own a boat it's constantly evolving and I have owned many in the past but this is my first kayak.

I have a 230.  It works for me but longer might be a bit better.  I am not an experienced kayaker so with more experience I will know for sure if the 240 would be preferable.

I bought the stuff for the anchor trolley kit just yesterday.  Looking forward to putting it on when the rain stops.  :)

I think you will like the trolley when you first use it. I just made mine using  rail clips that came with the boat a some UV resistant line I had laying around.

I found ring the right size at  the local hardware store and that is about all I needed.

The only problem that I ran into using the rails was at the attachment point  was high at each end of the yak and I have to make sure  that when I get into the boat  that I don't trap  the anchor trolley ropes under the elevated seat.

I don't know which kit you bought but a lot of the kits  I saw for sale involves drilling the hull and  I just did not want to do that.

The floor of the 115X and 115 Advanced Angler appear to different, correct? The floor of the 115X appears to be really cluttered. Is there actually room for your feet to stand? Thanks.

Is the 115X the same model they refer to as the Advanced Angler on their website?

Not quite ... the advanced angler is the regular 115 with the new seat.  Below is the link for the 115x.    Biggest difference is the console in the middle.

If you don't mind me asking how big of a guy are you? I'm a pretty big guy and have been looking at kayaks.
