Elwood aka Ted Striker. Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 You alright fellas Finally decided on the Daiwa Tatula type r for my first baitcaster, so all it is now is, what speed retrieve for jigheads and soft plastics for straight retrieve and bouncing along the bottom? 6.3:1 or 8.1:1? Cant wait to hear your views aye. Quote
John G Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Most will say the faster the better but the 6.3:1 is fine and would be more versatile down the road IMHO. Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted April 28, 2014 Super User Posted April 28, 2014 For bouncing, I like the faster retrieve to pick up slack. For a straight retrieve, I prefer the 6.3. If I had to choose one, it'd be the 6.3 though. It's easier for me to reel fast than to reel slowly. If I used an 8.1 to reel in a plastic worm, it'd probably be skipping on top of the water. Quote
WdyCrankbait Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 I use 6.3 gear ratio for plastic. It gives me enough slack to catch up and be able to catch up when the bass picks up and starts to swim away. personally, for me using a higher gear ratio pulls in too much line and you can pull a plastic through the optimal strike zone very quickly. Elwood aka Ted Striker. Posted April 30, 2014 Author Posted April 30, 2014 Ordered the tatula type r in 8.1:1 as the slower models had to be ordered in so just went for it as i didnt want to wait, no what i mean. But some how i dont think this will be my first and last baitcasting reel so its all good anyway . But cheers for your responses fellas aye. Quote
