Super User tcbass Posted April 28, 2014 Super User Posted April 28, 2014 So, I'm looking at getting two reels for my two spinning rods. They are Cabelas Tournament ZX 7' spinning rods which are medium weight with an X-fast tip and are rated for #6-12lbs line. I want to use them for bass and some walleye fishing. I don't want the reels to be too big. I was lookng at a Shimano Ci4+FA and a Shiman Stradic FJ. I see that they come in STCI42500FA and STCI43000FA and for the Stradic ST2500 and ST3000. What size should I get? *** I use my spinning reels a lot, so I don't mind spending a little for a good reel, however, if anyone has any other suggestions on other reels that would be good, I'm all ears. Alpha Male Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 The Quantum Smoke I have is very smooth. besides the shimano line its the only one that I liked when I bought it last year. Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted April 28, 2014 Super User Posted April 28, 2014 I've owned the CI4, CI4+, and FJ, and kept an FJ and a CI4+. I prefer the CI4+ over the FJ. Both the FJ and CI4+ are very smooth and feel solid, but the CI4+ is lighter and has a lighter rotor, which makes the handle rotation feel lighter. The 2500 and 3000 are both the same size, but the 3000 has a deeper spool. I would recommend the 2500, as I have never really seen the need for a deep spool; unless you're fishing waters that hold big salmon or something. You can find the FJ much cheaper, so if you want to save money, that's the right choice. If you want the better reel, I definitely recommend the CI4+, it'll feel great on those rods. Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted April 28, 2014 Super User Posted April 28, 2014 I'd go with the 2500 or 200/0 size in another brand. If you looking around, I'd check out the Revo Premier. It's one sweet reel! 1 Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted April 28, 2014 Super User Posted April 28, 2014 I'd go between a 2000 or 2500, the 3000 is ok if you plan on using 10 lb line regularly but 2500 is what I'd be looking at. Quote

I haven't used either of those, but I know the Premier is very very smooth, and the drag is amazing. I've got two that I use for all my finesse applications with light line and haven't had an issue with them at all. My only complaint is that I don't have more of them haha. Quote
