Yes though he has racist remarks under his belt, this is a "free" country with freedom of speech.

He is "free" to be an ugly racist.. and we should not have our freedoms restricted just because some of us choose to be free with the ugly side.

Freedom is paramount.

We've already had plenty of our freedoms already taken over the last hundred years.. dont dare take away arms nor speech.

Could you list a few please.  I may be naive but I feel I have more freedoms that ever.

At one time I was not allowed to enter certain facilities open to the public based on who I am.  I can't be denied anymore, I have civil rights which I didn't have 50 years ago.  As long as racism has been discussed already I hope it's ok for a little bit of detail.  When I was young child back in Detroit there was a swimming pool open to the public, there was no membership as in the case of a country club, I was denied entry.  There was a sign at the door NO JEWS OR N>>>>>> allowed.  This very same sign also appeared on the door of Arthur Godfrey's hotel in Miami Beach, we had to go elsewhere.

I doubt too many people here have ever experienced that kind of hatred and discrimination.  Sorry to go off topic a bit, in reality racism is really the root of this thread.  It is difficult for people to fully understand how bad it hurts people if never experienced it themselves.

I just don't understand people thinking they have lost a freedom.  I'm stopping it right there as not to be political, stating facts of our laws is not political, being verbally biased is so I won't.

If this post is deleted or I'm banned so be it, glad I got it off my chest.

Snook you and einscodek are talking about two different rights. He is reffering more to the restrictions media and government are placing on the people as the society's moral police and manipulators. I believe most folks would agree the freedoms you talk about would be ones that should be God given.

Here is more general what I believe think others might too.

I should be able to do with my property as I please on my property and speak as I feel in or on my property and tell whom can come on or in my property and with my property I will defend my neighbors and the governments property so long as they protect my rights and defend me.

This notion is failing as we now have the government, random folks, watchdog groups telling us what we can and cant say or do with our property on our property and they won't defend me or my rights.

That is why I tend to think this is total BS and the man shouldn't be punished. A moral in justice yes, a crime no. Who are these people to judge this man, we all will eventually be judged by a higher authority than high ho silver or society. These people judge so they can feel better about themselves and sleep at night.

My rant is done.

I don't believe it is. The root of the thread is how and why it's being handled the way it is. I don't believe anyone here is condoning Sterlings behavior. The fact is he has a right to feel the way he does. No one was dragged behind a truck or hung from a tree because of the words he spoke. People say ignorant stuff all the time. Take myself and Raider for instance... :wink2:  There are people in this country who perpetuate racism as part of their divide and conquer agenda. The media is a big part of the problem.

Media only voices an opinion it has no control over what people do, one can give them credence or choose not to. Government has placed no restrictions on me or try to sway my moral beliefs.  Freedoms I talk should be God Given but they aren't.  Go back in time as far as you want and their has always been a ruling class controlling the lower class.  Even the Constitution is a work in progress, that's why there have been and will be more amendments to it.  I just don't buy into this losing of freedom mentality.
