I recently bought a dobyns Savy series rod. It's a 7ft heavy action. It's rated for (1/4)-1 oz lures. When I took it out the first time, the action seem a little lighter than I expected. I ended up throwing a caffeine shad and doing pretty well.

My question is for those guys with dobyns rod: do you think it is able to throw 5/8 oz hollow body frogz and 3/8 oz dirty jigs swim jig?

During the summer, I do fish around so pretty thick grass when frogging.

I bought this rod with macro guides bc I planned on tying a short leader to my braid when throwing my swim jigs.

I know a lot of guys like longer rods but I had a 7'6" once And hated it. 7 ft is perfect for me to fish out of my kayak.

Anyway, please let me know of any experiences with the heavy action dobyns rods and how they performed with frogging and swim jigging.

Thanks.

Swim jigs will be perfect on the 704.

Hollow bodies, if you are fishing in open water it will be okay. I prefer the 735 for frogs in any sort of cover or open water really. It has a great XF tip for walking frogs. you're going to be able to throw the frogs in junk but you may have to go get them more than you would like to /w the 704.

I think your fine man I threw my California swim jigs and the big river2sea spittin wa frogs last year on a medium heavy st. CROIX legend extreme. That 704 should handle it just fine.

Did you fish it in and around heavy cover, or in open water?

My thread seems kinda dumb because my last frog rod was a 6 foot MH. So my new rod is much better suited than my old one, and i seemed to manage the fish in heavy cover pretty well with a little 6 foot rod. lol.

But im upgrading all my rods and reels to dobyns and 13 *** reels. So I just want to try and get my combos right. That way I dont have to backtrack or buy another rod bc this one isnt performing as I hoped.
