Zach Dunham Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Went out on Wallenpaupack on Friday and absolutely killed it. Water was between 46-50 depending on location. Caught everything on jerkbaits except 1 fish on a spinnerbait in the far back of a cove where the water was 53. Biggest one was almost 5 lbs and was the only largemouth. I posted a pic of the largemouth and a GoPro video I created of the outing. It is 4 minutes long or so. Here's a link to the video also: 2 Quote
Butterbean1 Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Nice video, and great fish... You ever have any luck up at beltzville this time of year Quote
Zach Dunham Posted April 28, 2014 Author Posted April 28, 2014 Nice video, and great fish... You ever have any luck up at beltzville this time of year Beltzville is the most hit or miss lake I have ever seen. We went there once this year and caught one fish. I just can't figure that place out when it is cold. We have gone during spawn and post-spawn though and really caught a load there. When that lake shuts off, it is difficult to even catch a fish, though. Quote
Butterbean1 Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 I hear you on that... I keep telling my self I will figure it out, I guess I should just swallow my pride and move on Quote
PAGreg Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 You've inspired me to give Wallenpaupack a try. I've never been there but I'm going to hit it on Wednesday. Quote
Zach Dunham Posted May 1, 2014 Author Posted May 1, 2014 You've inspired me to give Wallenpaupack a try. I've never been there but I'm going to hit it on Wednesday. It's gonna be cold still I would assume. It can be tough. If the water is between 46 and 51, go to the bridge by the south end of the lake near Ledgedale. It's at the very end by the river that feeds it. You can always catch at least a few smallmouth on jerkbaits around the rocks there this time of year. Half of the fish in my video above were caught there. I hope you catch a bunch! Quote
Koofy Smacker Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Heck I had water in the 60's down here. Well... not anymore since this rain just dumped over 6 inches on us Quote
PAGreg Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Thanks for the tip. I had planned to launch from the Ironwood launch and head south. Any suggestions on jerkbait color? Seems on the susquehanna the smallmouth love anything with an orange belly. Quote
ColdSVT Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Im sure we will find the right color dude...youve seen my collection lol Quote

Seems on the susquehanna the smallmouth love anything with an orange belly. I was throwing one of the Strike King KVD jerkbaits in sexy shad and an old school Smithwick Rogue silver with black on the top. The sexy shad Strike King jerkbait has always worked well there for me. I have never tried anything with an orange belly though, so if you do let us know how it does! Quote

Well... not anymore since this rain just dumped over 6 inches on us Wallenpaupack always takes awhile to warm up. My family is from the Stroudsburg area (45-60 minutes from Wallenpaupack) and it is consistently 5+ degrees colder air temp up by the lake. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 When I lived down there we always looked forward to the jerkbait bite on the 'Pack. That lake gets really tough later on though. Quote

Once the main summer time hits, the day time can be really difficult with all the boat traffic. Gotta go up the creek in Ledgedale in the secluded area or go really deep. Either way it isn't easy.
