Is this how you rig a single drop?  Also what do you guys think about these baits for bass and crappie?

Thanks!

I think the bottom leader needs a weight not a hook. And isn't that a live bait rig or chunk bait?.

Look into a drop shot rig kind of the same thing, where are you fishing?

There' s one really serious problem with your rig, the bottom hook ( Jighead ) is not weedless ! It' s going to hang up in an eyeblink, now change it for a shakeyhead and you'll be fine.

Grizzn,

I am not sure, the package just says single drop.  Was going to try bass or crappie with it.  I think the bottom need a weight too.  I'll have to rig my bait so it doesn't get hung up.

Raul,

Thanks for the input.  Will take a run to academy and see what I can find.

The baits look fine. Lose the rig and tie directly to your line. Cast it out and experiment with different retrieves. Your first cast should be far out as you can get it and let it sink. Watch your line for anything diffrent a fish might hit it on the fall. You have a better chance catching a bass or crappie without the rig. You will not need any type of metal leader for either of those fish and will get a better feel for what the lure is doing and what's around like weeds or rocks. I would use 6 lb. test mono on my reel if just starting. This is a good starting point. Remember to have fun, you will get the hang of it. Now nobody has to say good luck to you anymore as you are starting to become a skilled angler. Tight lines!

Bassguytom,

Thanks for the feedback sir!  So you're talking about just tying my bait directly to my line?  No weight or anything?  The only other rig I was going to try was a Carolina rig.

Thanks again!

Were you looking to tie a drop shot?

WIGuide,

I was just shopping in Academy and picked up what I thought was the correct rig for bass.  Can you even use this while fishing bass or is this more for crappie?  Was going to take the bait off the bottom and add a weight to fish the bottom.

There's nothing saying that you couldn't use it the way it is. You'd just have to be conscious to "swim" it instead of working it in once place like you would a drop shot. If you're just going to add weight to the bottom, you might as well eliminate the wires then too and make a true drop shot instead. You'd do that using just a small hook and a drop shot weight.

Lose the rig you have there. Not saying it won't work but it's pretty visible.

Take your top bait and tie a palomar knot, leaving a long tag end. You can then tie a weedless bait or jig on the bottom if you choose or go the more traditional route and use a drop shot weight.

I've got to ask, what are you fishing for?  Is that a steel leader?   What pound test is that?   That rig looks more suited for fish that have teeth.  Go back to the drawing board.  Pre-formed steel leaders with big snaps aren't a high percentage bass bait.  What kind of rig were you considering throwing that bait combo on?

I applaud your "outside the box" thinking on this rig, but you might want to consider thinking "closer to the box".  Don't feel like you have to re-invent the wheel.

The jig heads are the weights. No other weight is needed.
