I personally don't use swivels or snaps, but I see some pros using them. Do any of you guys use them? Just wondering... thanks

I use Norman Speed Clips on cranks, but I remove the factory split rings first.

The only other time I use snaps/swivels is on the kids' rods. It's so much easier than retying knots everything they decide to change lures. They're usually fishing for bream with worms or small grubs, and the fish don't seem to mind the snap.

On my crankbait rig I sometimes use a snap. Especially if we're going to hit multiple spots with varying depths.

Also use a swivel on spinning gear to avoid line twist.

I use snaps on all crank/jerk bait lures. Easier to change baits and gives them better action.

Not a yes or no answer, depends is the right answer for me.  I always use a leader with a ball bearing swivel regardless of spinning or conventional.  Trolling can and will produce line twist, many trolling lures come pre rigged with leader with a loop on the end, I use a BB swivel with a crosslock snap.  Basic fishing, BB swivel 15" leader with a duolock snap.  For fish with sharp gill plates, BB swivel 15" leader and loopknot to lure.  I make up my own steel leaders with an ordinary crane swivel attached to a duolock, BB swivel on mainline to a very short mono leader attached to the steel leader.

Swivels are a necessary part of a Carolina rig.

I use them with spoons as well:

Some use them to avoid twist in their drop shot rigging.

I also use swivels with flukes, two with a tandem fluke rig.

Snaps, yes. #2 and #3 Duo Lock Snaps for almost all hard baits. They allow me to tie a much stronger Palomar knot. There are a few baits that just don't work with a snap, but its just a few.

I've been very happy with the Berkley Cross-Lok snaps. I use them for everything except my worm rig, though I have used them on it before with no problems.

I use to use snaps on cranks until i had a few cranks that the snap wouldn't /were hard to fit into. After that i reinstalled all the split rings on my cranks and tie directly to them.

i use duo lock snaps with crank baits.

duo lock snap w/swivel on fluke type baits and spinning gear.

direct tie on spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, and plastics

I see a single hook on that spoon. Do you change them all or only in certain circumstances?

Tee hee.....should have cropped that out.  :-X

I remove the trebles from all my spoons, better hookups, less hangups, and you can use a x-fast rod.

Yes.

Snaps.

Work great on cranks, buzzbaits and spinnerbaits.

Spinnerbaits?????

Buzzbaits????

How does that work?

You go to your local lawn and garden store that works on lawn and garden tractors and purchase a foot or two of the yellow fuel line tubing.

Then cut off a very small section of tubing and place it on the front of the spinnerbait and buzzbait shafts so that there is space for your snap or to tie your favorite knot.

I usually go with a 1/16 size but who measures?

Works like a charm and makes changing your baits quick and easy.

I put one of these tube sections on all spinner and buzzbaits when I go fishing plus putting three or four cut and ready to go in the tackle box.

Give it a try.  :)

I use snaps on all crankbaits and jerkbaits and that's it.

I use ball bearing swivels on Carolina rigs, spoons, and inline spinners.  With the spinners, I use a leader of about 18" between swivel and spinner.  Long enough that I can retie a few times and short enough that I can still easily cast.

I use snaps

First thing I do to all my crankbaits is take the O-ring off the tie.I use a Bass snap on my CB rod always. Quick and easy to change cranks. :)

How does using a snap allow a stronger palomar? The only difference I can think of is that you can use a smaller loop going around a snap vs. a crankbait, but I'm not sure of how this would affect knot strength. Is it because a shorter pull when cinching means less friction going through the knot?

Hookingem, I will bring a spinnerbait by Tackle Express and show you.

Very simple and works great.  :)

Yes, and you'll never tie the knot in the split of the split ring.

i sue duo locks on everything but jigs and tubes they seem to hang up in the rocks and snag a lot more with the snap then just tying right to the lure

Slide a small ring slice of tube over the R-bend on the spinner/buzzbait, and then use a snap.  Its an old time pike and muskie fisherman's trick.
